Temple

After watching the first 8 episodes of Temple, I couldn't be bothered to make it through the end and I don't recommend this anime.

I'll try to explain the few reasons that made me drop this show down below.


This anime has both the harem & ecchi tag, therefore, every viewer should tune his expectations according to those tags, since it's probably the fairest way to compare animes. But even by doing so, Tenpuru feels like a below average anime.


+ The scenario/story/mood :

Probably the least worst aspect of this show : the plot is pretty basic but it does the job. Furthermore, this show ... decides to enhance the comedy tag and focuses a lot on absurd reactions, exaggerations. I think the jokes get old quite quickly, but they do feel coherent with the general atmosphere of the show, many viewers will like it and that feat is praiseworthy.

And that's about the only good thing this show has to offer...

- The art/animation :

It's common for that type of anime to have low budgets, and viewers don't expect real sakuga moments from those animes. But the animation felt too cheap, you'll spot many scenes where the drawings are just bad, inconsistent faces, proportions that become weird for a few seconds etc... And keep in mind that I highlight it even though I usually never notice/care enough about technical aspects in animation, but it's so frequent you can't miss those poor drawings.

- The characters :

The characters are walking clichés, every one of them. It might be harsh to write it as a con since many harem shows have this problem, but it hurts even more when the show doesn't have much else to offer, as it's the case here.

- The ecchi :

The ecchi scenes are uninspired and predictable. I guess we can praise the show for not going with cringe scenes, since the ecchi scenes also fit the comic atmosphere, but that's about it.


All things considered, Temple is a very average show : it has a basic plot that involves cliché characters, and there's a heavy importance on comedy, where pretty much every scene/event has a comic purpose. However, the animation is rather cheap, up to the point where the viewer will put to the question the point of this adaptation. I think the story is decent enough in harem/ecchi standards, but chances are you'll enjoy it more by reading the manga rather than watching the anime.

This show follows the MC who has a bad reputation due to his father’s deeds. He despises this along with his own character and travels to a different place where in order to improve himself, however, he ends up in a situation where he is challenged even further.

Plot: 2/5
This anime intensively makes use of fan service and comedy in every episode which completely overrides “significant” plot developments and butchers the main story. By excessive fan service and comedy, I mean unrealistic awkward situations that occur. The events seem completely random at times. There was an attempt to create a romantic atmosphere, however, this was executed ... poorly through fan-service.

Art/animation: 3/5
The animation is soft and good.

Soundtrack: 3/5
The sound and osts are pretty average.

Characters: 3/5
The characters are unique and receive development through the use of flashbacks and conflicts that arise in the show. This one of the strengths of this show which contains many flaws.

Overall: 4/10
This show may only appeal to individuals who enjoy harem. This anime performs poorly in other areas specifically romance.

I gave this an try, because I watched Love Hina, Green Green, and a few others back in the day and kind of enjoyed them at the time. After being disappointed I tried to watch them again, and got the cringies at my old tastes. So what I would say, right away you will know if this is your type of show, and you may find it funny or enjoyable. Keep in mind what I learned, Love Hina was a long time ago so your tastes may have changed.
Story was what you would expect, the art was good, colorful and easy on the eyes, ... but the animation was low quality- spin reels of backgrounds, choppy low frame rate in some places and good on some scenes but those get get replayed often- just feels like they took a ton of shortcuts. I cant bring myself to watch anymore

Girls fall over for no reason. Breasts pop out for no reason. People slip and get on top of each other for no reason. This anime gives Looney Tunes a run for its money. I understand it's ecchi/harem but anime has evolved enough to tell decent stories even while having ecchi/harem and fanservice elements. It's disappointing when a series recycles the elements from things that aired two decades prior.

Art/Animation: 9/10
First of all, the art for this anime is great. It's saturated, warm, and every character has vibrant hair colour and hairstyle. The temple scenes and background are also detailed and drawn well. Since this is ... an ecchi/harem, all the females are voluptuous (except for the token loli character). The animation is nice overall. The comedic scenes are also animated well with good transition between comedic and regular scenes. It's not era defining or unique but it's beautiful. If you can turn your brain off for 24 min at a time only to gaze at nice art, this anime is wonderful.

Sound: 4/10
The problem begins with the voice acting. The MC, Akemistu, has a deep, mature voice. There is nothing wrong with a deep voice. But every time he opens his mouth, Akemitsu (a teenager) sounds like a 45 year old disgruntled salaryman. Even in scenes where he tries to sound excited, it sounds like a man in despair trying to cheer up. And since he's the only relevant male in the cast, you hear a lot of him. It's very displeasing to the ear. The rest of the cast is alright and doesn't stand out too much.

The opening is generic but every ending has different songs sung by the voice actresses from the cast. I applaud them for the effort. The soundtrack and sound effects are average.

"PLOT": 3/10
Unfortunately the plot is even worse. The MC Akemitsu's dad is an immoral womanizer. His Akagami bloodline has a reputation for being lecherous and Akemitsu is usually called a pervert due to his surname. But he wants to be different so he avoids women altogether and focuses on schoolwork until one day he sees Yuzuki. He's tempted but to avoid temptation he becomes a monk and goes to a temple.. hence the title of the series "Temple."

And it goes downhill from there. Every episode the MC faces problem with different girls and at the end, they end up falling for him. Since it's an ecchi, there are an abundant of accidents and "pranks" which usually leads to inappropriate moments to provide fanservice.

Characters: 4/10
Generic ecchi/harem characters. Akemitsu is the MC with a problem (his lecherous bloodline)and unique traits (he's hardworking and nice). Yuzuki is the fateful encounter/nice girl. Tusukyo is the annoying /loud Young Lady with a temper. Mia is the tsundere. Kurage is the token loli. Kagura is the lewd/airhead/schemer and Kiki is the sensei/one-san. Nothing special and nothing impressive.

Overall, I went into this anime blind. I am a sucker for nice art and I decided to give it a watch, despite a plethora of red flags. I had no expectation for this anime and it still let me down somehow. I don't recommend this anime except to people who want pure fanservice and nice art. But if you really just want nice art, lewd scenes, and fanservice, then... there are other alternatives that will save you time and won't deceive you with "plot."

What a failure of a show this was. After watching Immoral Guild and KamiKatsu I was really looking forward to a bit of guilty pleasure ecchi so you shouldn't have trouble imagining how disappointed I was when we got served up whatever slop this was.

This was supposed to be ecchi, but it was so lame that a normal anime heavy on the fan service would have been more titillating. The girls looked okay but were let down by the animation (except for the stills in the ED), and their personalities were flatter than the paper they were drawn on.

As for the comedy, entire episodes would ... go by without even eliciting a wry smile from me and more often than not would only get a "heh" out of me, which on the scale of laughs is equal to a meh.

TLDR; this anime was shit and I feel like shit for putting up with this shit. I hope Gekkou goes out of business and all their employees have to find work as sanitation engineers where they belong.
