Yong Sheng

Fang Han, a lowly domestic slave, grew up believing what his father, also a slave, told him: "We'd rather be a beggar than a slave!"
He stole and practiced martial arts moves from his employer, the Fang Family, but progress was slow until one faithful day when he accidentally saved dying expert Hai Ba Chan from the Qunxing Sect. The later then teaches him martial arts and bestows upon him two divine artifacts, "Nine golden-opening elixir" and "Dormant dragon picture.".

Just before he died, Hai Ba Chan asked Fang Han to exact revenge on Fang Qing Xue, who turned out to be a young miss of ... the Fang family.

Fang Qing Xue is an inner disciple of Yuhua Sect, one of the realm's top ten immortality sects. She is taking a cultivation break to visit the Fang Family's home in order to recruit servants for her academy, as well as to recruit Fang Family children as outer disciples of her sect. During this time, she noticed Fang Han's talent and invited him to accompany her back to the academy. The journey to immortality of Fang Han will then begin.

While this donghua is an adaptation of a novel, I have never read the actual source (I've read the manhua which is also an adaptation of the novel), so I will not speak to how well of an adaptation this work is.

General Plot: Fang Han, a generational serf of the Fang Clan, wants to fulfill his father's dream of becoming a free person. In order to do this, he secretly watches the clan disciples practice during his free time and trains at night, hoping to establish a strong enough cultivation to break free of his serfdom. During one of his secret nighttime practices, he encounters ... a dying man (attacked by Fang Qingxue, the eldest young mistress of the Fang Clan for his treasures) who decides to entrust a cultivation pill and demon artifact to him and requests him to rise up and eventually kill Fang Qing Xue. This pill allows him to quickly strengthen his cultivation, attracting Fang QingXue's attention, allowng him to join the sect and beginning his true cultivation journey.

One of the main differences this donghua has from most other cultivation donghua is that does not have an OP MC, reincarnator MC, or time-regressor MC; he is an ordinary in-universe person. He is naive and his knowledge on the world matches his background. His character and development are consistant with someone of his status, which is quite unique (for now, also no OP teacher). While this could be considered a rather normal cultivation story with similar goals, his progression, attitude and character make it unique. The only drawback of this is that the season is abit short. The character models, and animations are fluid so that is a huge plus; the action/fighting scenes could use a bit of work though.

PS (and possible spoiler): do you really think Hongyi is dead? Yeah right, everything shown after her "death" implies she didn't die.

Splendid work, among the series of cultivating, is the most thrilling I've ever seen. It hooks the audience with its plot and story play. The character was well written and supported by the environment, and it has a revenge story that will hook you up with the story. This series has a lot of potential and a lot to offer. The direction and story-play style seem unique to me and well-rounded. And the best part of this is that it also has a love angle, which represents loneliness.
I highly recommend it to others if you like this kind of series, and I presume you will ... never get bored.
