GKIDS is an American film distributor based in New York with, according to the Los Angeles Times, a focus on "sophisticated, indie" animation. GKIDS releases critically acclaimed mostly hand-drawn, international films—such as the works of the independent Japanese anime studio Studio Ghibli—to North American audiences. GKIDS also distributes computer animated and stop-motion films in addition to hand-drawn ones, as well as American films by independent filmmakers. The name is said to be an acronym for "Guerrilla Kids International Distribution Syndicate". I was thinking about how anime can sometimes show you examples of parent characters that you may have loved to be parented by. This is a compilation of just that! The parents in these shows display care, affection, empathy, and responsibility for their children/younger folks they care for and guide (who may be the main character) Series that fall under the found family trope, with a parent figure and a child or children (not necessarily blood-related) that have a familial bond. Series that involve cooking and good food. The way to a person's heart is through their stomach and what more to fill the stomach but with comforting food. Not necessarily centered on food but there are moments when food is really good and appreciated. Anime that shows what it looks like to build a family outside your blood family (those you relate to by blood). Chosen family is an expansive term, to look past the rigidity of what hegemonic society deems as family, bonding, and care. Anime where you wouldn't expect, from the promotional image on MAL, that they may contain some heavy and intense stuff. Also, these anime are often lighthearted, comedic, or dramatic all while with psychological subtext. Standalone movies from 2020-Present. Summer themed animes to lift you up in bad days. Shout!
