Umayon

Umayon is a simple and short show, and clearly has less value than being a gift for Uma Musume fans.

If you're not one, you certainly won't find much fun here, which, in part, is my case.

The animation is simple, minimalist chibi design that only supports the interaction between the characters. Those that by the way are the strength point of the anime. Each episode focuses on a group of them, which allows us to get to know them more than Uma Musume: Pretty Derby did in many cases.

Besides, it's a harmless show. Competent in character presentation, satisfying for those who are already a fan of ... Uma Musume and minimally cool for those who just look for a short and cute anime.

A fun and cute uma musume little side gig. The episodes were short and sweet. I honestly preferred this art style to that of the normal show. Everything was visually clear and not muddied in the way I found the original show to be.

The show had its funny moments, but as a whole wasn't as witty as it could have been. Most of it was self referential with the gag being these horses eat a lot.

Garupa Pico is this but way better, and coming into this show having seen that before, I felt they did the genre much better than this one did, even though ... it had the same amount of potential.

If you are coming into this not having played the game or watched the first season, you are not going to get anything out of this show.

I really wanted to like Umayon!, Pretty Derby was one of my favourite shows in the last few years and I was looking forward to spending more time with the horse girls. Sadly Umayon's biggest failing is that it introduces too many new characters (without having the time to learn about them or their personalities) and almost entirely ignores the main cast from the original show. With only 3 minutes to spare why not use the characters the audience is already familiar with or just focus on adding in a few different horses as recurring characters? It's too short and too busy which is a ... real shame because this show had a lot of potential.
