Gunjou no Magmell

This anime is not as bad as people make it out to be!

I had fun watching this sweet and lovely anime, that is definitely not for everyone as it doesn't follow the traditional storyline of a typical anime. Indeed, instead the anime has a new story every episode and doesn't follow any plots but each episode is more or less entertaining and cater to a younger and more pure audience.

No one should take it that seriously and it is just nice to watch it if you have a lot of free time.

Overall i give it a 8!

The starting of the anime really excited me as with a concept of a new continent and explorers the concept really made me into the show making me feel that the show may have the story and the fighting but much to my Imagination the anime turned out pretty different even though the new fighting style with a powerful mc was good still the potential of a good story this anime wasted was immesurable it was still ok tho I thought we would atleast get a good ending but no out of everything the ending is what dissapointed me the most

The anime did have ... some good parts and some comedy there were some good episode which helps me give this anime a solid 7 it was an ok anime.

Without seeing anything about this series other than the Netflix description, I watched the first episode thinking I discovered a hidden gem but was disappointed. Even so, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and continued watching a few more episodes but was once again let down. In the end, I finished the series just for the sake of it.

Don’t get me wrong, this anime isn’t terrible but it sure as hell didn’t live up to the expectations of what it could’ve been. If I were to describe each episode with one word, I’d say it would be “lackluster”. If I were to describe ... the entire anime with two words, I’d say “wasted potential”. I felt that the plot could’ve used more work and direction. Both Inyou and the setting of the anime, was interesting and managed to pique my curiosity but I wish there was more foundation to his character and the new continent. In my opinion, the series it self feels like it’s lacking something and didn’t properly satisfy the themes of fantasy and/or adventure.

Let me start off by saying, I usually have certain expectations by different genres, an action is supposed to hype me up in some ways and an adventure is supposed to sparkle my imagination...

That being said, when a series doesn't make true on those expectations, I'm certainly dissappointed, and an action adventure like this is therefore an utter dissappointment for me.

Gunjou no Magmell is a series about a new continent popping up in the pacific with all kinds of alien creatures which ushers in a new age of exploration. The problem is just that the creatures of Magmell are all Australia on steroids, everything can ... and will kill you. This hasn't stopped people from going there though because the continent will make you rich if you take only one thing back from it.

I think that's really cool, a dangerous and unexplored continent will certainly fill the abyss in my heart that made in abyss left 2 years ago. It's a shame that this series doesn't make up on it.

The story follows some guy who rescues people from the continent who are stuck there, he's the only one seemingly able to stand his own in Magmell because he has been trained by some mysterious predecessor of his in the art of creating things with thunder power or something. Now that's also cool I guess, there's the continent to explore, there's his back story to explore... But... It doesn't do that, and I think that's where this series fails.

As I said in the beginning, an adventure is supposed to sparkle my imagination, Made in Abyss did that with its mysterious and increasingly dangerous world, it leaves me asking questions about it. Hunter X Hunter did that the exact same way. This series just makes me tired.

I think that's due to a few factors, firstly, its episodic nature. Every episode someone else is being rescued by the main character, with that, the new character needs to be introduced, his/her family needs to be introduced etc. That's all time wasted which you could have spent on exploring the world or exploring the questions you have about the main character, instead it's a kind of monster of the week format.

Funny thing is though, the monster of the week is actually the human. This is more of an environmental series. It's about our impact on the world and the evilness of humans, not the idea of adventure. And... That's fine, I'm glad even, because we need environmental messages with climate change deniers being elected all around the planet... But could you at least make it more intriguing??

I think a series could be environmental in some ways and still be an interesting adventure anime. This season even has another anime with an adventure/evil of humans focus: Dororo, which does execute its message well. This one though is just predictable and boring, almost every episode is like:
Generic character: "Help me Angler guy (he's nicknamed the angler or whatever), my _____ is stuck in magmel rescue him please. " ->They go to the continent after the main character is being kind of difficult about it. -> Turns out the character they need to rescue is poaching spooky but cute animals in Magmell. -> Character gets sense beaten into him/her and/or dies in some ironic way.

Now I don't want my action adventures to be predictable in that fashion, this series has just failed to intrigue me in every single way. And therefore failed as an adventure anime in my eyes.

For the rest, I guess I could go on about the sloppy writing, poor comedy, and its lack of success when it actually does try to intrigue you, it's poor action scenes, which it all has... But yeah... You get the point by now. Don't watch it if you like action adventure the way I enjoy it.

Until the 12th and 13th episode, the whole serie was fun. The characters seem a little bit strange first but later you'll gonna love them. The musics and the story is good, but there is no actuall main plot in the serie. The fight scenes are enjoyable.

I loved it untill the 12th episode, but than. Oh boy! The last 2 episodes are pathetic nonsense. Writing down why, would be spoiler, but I advice that if you liked the serie until the 12th episode, do not watch the last 2. Just read the story what happened. I felt literall pain watching it and skipped like 5 ... mins from the two episodes.

This is a show my friends and I love to hate. It's hilariously stupid.

The characters are all idiots. The main character along with his assistant appears to enjoy torturing the people who commission him for work while they're always broke. There's one episode where they hound a shopkeeper the entire episode for no apparent reason. In another his assistant buys a warehouse full of marshmallows and eats them constantly.

Nobody seems to particularly care about the wildlife in Magmell, killing monsters indiscriminately, until they do because one episode has a wildlife biologist who's trying to save some monsters.

As my friends like to say, this show is ... 'no moral theater,' where by the end of an episode you simply end up confused as to what message the show is trying to convey.

In the end, all of the characters aren't nice people, which does make for a lot of hilarity.

I was expecting some grand adventure show when I first heard of Magmell of the Blue Sea(Magmell). A new continent appears with exotic wildlife and fauna, and people risk their lives to extract these new resources. The only problem being is that Magnell is a monster of the week type show which does not fit the exploration genre the best.

There nothing terribly wrong with the show every week the main guy has to rescue someone from the new continent or take someone there from some average storyline that has been done already. Nothing surprised me. Did I mention this takes place like 50 ... or so years after this continent has appeared? Because it has. A lot of that exploration feel is drained by the fact the main guy is somewhat familiar with the terrain and wildlife, so he is never surprised at something.

Not to mention they don't have much personality. Magmell keeps the main guy's past is hidden and its honestly to his detriment because he does not have much going for him otherwise. He has some really cool magic powers where he can make hands hammers and frankly anything he can imagine. Also there this one episode where they drive this poor merchant into ruin and try and play it for laughs. I was not amused.

It not a terrible show but it's not great either. that it is average is the best I can say of it

The terribly drawn characters, old-school style huge eyes, and overly lazy skimping on animated parts I could get over. What I find particularly annoying is the scrooge type trope that is added in for no reason and the character that without the slightest guilt or humanity through negligence causes the death of his client, a boy, without a care. Meanwhile the author is basically trying to tell us he is cool and awesome and secretly a good guy. NO, I'm sorry. An author trying to jam down my throat that it's cool and secretly good to abandon a weak sick boy ... in the most dangerous woods on Earth, get him killed, and then walk off is not my idea of entertainment or a good story. Were I to continue beyond this episode I would merely be hoping that the author torture the main character in hopes that he somehow grows a conscience and becomes sufferably bearable.

At first this anime seems promising. I have an absolute obsession with characters that overpowered or at least very powerful and any type of exploring a new world anime catches my eye.

In the first episode we are shown an interesting setting and characters that have a cool attitude and some pretty good character designs.

I think this anime went wrong when decided not to tack on any story. With a few episodes the anime looses any momentum it had in the beginning as you slowly begin to realize that the story isnt going to come. Each conflict in an episode is pretty much solved in ... the same episode. The existence of the setting is never really well explained and they dont go more in depth with it after the beginning. They attempt to give the main character a back story with some flashbacks, but he never becomes a relatable character.

If you like any kind of story in your anime, rewatch some other anime, as you'd be wasting your time with this one.

This show is episodic and every episode is basically the same theme.

Mother Nature is weird and beautiful and we shouldn't disturb it, then comes something disturbing mother nature on this new crazy continent it made. Then the Eco-terrorist (as I like to call them) of the episode gets punished in some way.

Then it goes on like that for every episode except the last 2, where it decides to have a plot? The 2 part episode however, is the exact same format as every other episode except there is more exposition on the main characters. Then it ends.

Neat concept for an anime. Terrible execution. Repetitious ... pacing. I'm generally not a fan of episodic modern anime unless it's a comedy or something not serious.

My expectation for this anime was low. The first couple episodes greatly increased my expectations. The main characters seemed complex, the world was creative, and the design of the animation was really cool and interesting. I loved how the series didn't shy away from hard truths like death. I enjoyed the stand alone plot episodes that revealed a little bit more about the world and the characters. It was rough, but I was excited for more.

But as the series went on, there was not overarching plot...kind of like a Sunday cartoon where the world resets each episode. I don't mind that style ... except when a plot into is crammed into the last 3 episodes of the anime and then does a bad job of it. To top it all off, I grew to dislike literally all the characters. Some characters were single sided. The other character were almost as boring as the cgi extras walking in the background. And they were all sadistic without the anime seeming to realize they were sadistic.

Overall, this anime was meh and forgettable. But I think a lot of people were so jaded from being disappointed by the high expectations that it seemed worse than it is.

It's sad how much potential has been wasted.The idea of ​​such a world is quite creative and would also be very good for an exciting story, but you have an average to bad story with average characters.

I am an emotional person, especially when it comes to music and anime. And there was almost no scene where I felt anything. Neither sadness nor absolute happiness.

The music in the anime was pretty okay. Nothing that stays in the head, rather average. The Japanese voice actors were pretty good. The German voice actors were dull and boring.

The animations were okay at the beginning, a bit flat ... but okay. At a certain point the animations just got boring and bad. At some point you couldn't really enjoy it anymore.

If you don't mind light-hearted comedy this will be great. The plot is extremely non-existent in this series until about the last 2-3 episodes which is such a shame as the manhua is so much more plot-forward and there's so much to explore. The manhua is actually super interesting and I'm so confused why the production company chose to ignore all the potentially amazing portions to animate.

If you are watching the anime after reading the manhua you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you're reading the manhua after watching the anime, you're in for a really pleasant surprise.

Personally I still enjoyed the anime ... as a fun slice-of-life-ish comedy where the potential for so much plot is just thrown away and left forgotten. Hopefully the next instalment (if any) will be more similar to the original work and focus more on the plot and its progression rather than use 9 episodes as fillers for a series that only as 13 episodes.

Mediocre is the perfect way to describe this anime. It takes no risks, and seems to think it is much more amazing than it actually is. While the concept is slightly novel, the characters are a bit plain. Sure they avoid the occasional cliche, but they do nothing to go beyond it and fill in the gaps. Episodes tend to end with a "This was resolved offscreen" and really if you aren't going to show the villains getting their payback, what is even the point of watching?

There isn't much more to say honestly. A boilerplate anime leaves little to ... describe it. The powers are neat, but it falls into a Green Lantern trap, as in if you can summon anything to use as a weapon why go with a normal pistol or a shortsword? It just doesn't make sense. Gunjou no Magmell is an adventure anime in which a boy and a girl take on assignments related to the island of Magmell, a place isolated from the world where the flora and fauna are very different from normal.

The first episodes narrate the first missions of the protagonists. As the series progresses, they explain the background of some characters.

My opinion:
Plot → Typical anime in which each chapter develops a mission, except for some in which they explain the origin of the protagonist. Nothing relevant or interesting happens.
Setting → Nothing to highlight.
Characters → No characters stand out and their backgrounds are nothing special.

Conclusion: In general, it ... was a boring anime for me, because it gives the feeling that there is no interesting plot to follow. It is a generic anime with nothing to contribute.

Gunjou no Magmell, how do I describe you?

I still don't know if my rating is too low, I don't know what to think of you.

First of all, the plot is really original. The character is likeable, and his motivations are logical. The animation is not bad, so all the ingredients are there to cook us a good anime.

Well... I feel frustrated. The potential was really there, but it was floundering. I felt like they got lost after a while. The story doesn't really move forward and my "excitement" turns into "worry".. And I was right, I got lost at the same time as the plot.

A ... wasted potential, which I recommend despite everything, because the originality deserves to be seen.
