There are three “routes” in Uma Musume: The Main Route, the Road To The Top route, and the Cinderella Gray Route.

Each is based off the real careers of different Japanese racehorses, so they all take place in the same universe.

However, the different routes don’t interact with each other aside from some character cameos, callbacks, and references.

This means you can watch them in any order, however, this is the most optimal way to get into the anime in my opinion.

Start with the original trilogy. Watch BNW after you finish Season 1.

Then watch Road to the Top. After, watch Shin Jidai no Tobira since it’s closely connected to it.

Finally, complete Cinderella Gray parts 1 and 2.

Umayon and Umayuru are shorts that can be skipped but give good coverage of more obscure characters. The difference is that Umayuru has more of an ongoing plot-line while Umayon is completely random.
