Grappler Baki (TV)

Baki is an anime that is the definition of "the sum is greater than the parts." individually, it doesn't do anything outstanding. However, together, its just really entertaining.

Let's be real. This anime is just one long meme. It knows what it is, who are the people who'd watch it, and caters to them. The story, characters, situatiions are ridiculous and comical. You got one character that kills polar bears with his bear hands, and another who's alternate personality is a feared war hero. Not to mention, the main character and his friends are overpowered 13 year olds beating on grown men. You see where I ... am going with this?

At the time of this review, the art is a bit dated at this point as is the music. However, its not dated enough to stop anyone from enjoying the series if they were to start here today. Give it a try.

Berserk style of drawings meets "fighting/martial-arts" with big macho-characters like the 90's. This anime feels like a late 80's to 90's boy's action-hero dream. It has that old vibe if you appreciate anime of that era. The OST is not bad either, its not extraordinary either but it does fit the anime. The story is about a boy who's narcissistic, sociopathic father is a fighting machine and the boy is raised to follow his footsteps by a mother who's exploiting the boy to gain affection of the ultimate villain father. The story also seems to be somewhat inspired by mma as it ... was developped around the time of the manga. If you enjoy "old school" and martial arts animes with abit of that 90's cheese, you'll not want to miss this one as its probably some of the best. No wonder they decided to relaunch this on netflix with a remake. Note the anime is abit shallow yet it does try its best to add other elements than fighting into it but it never really distracts from being a fighting/martial arts anime either.

A very old fashion fighting anime series very heavy just pure action great storyline and fighting scenes it has a lot of drama mixed in even some romance but overall it was a very enjoyable series good for anyone looking for a big time action fighting series
