In terms of setting, art, story, genre etc. these shows share next to nothing. Still, both shows are essentially about being, or becoming, decent people, children and adults alike. Mrs Jo and her husband are the kind teachers, carefully standing in the back most of the time, guiding their pupils into becoming successful and believing in them. "Cooking Papa" Mr. Arawai does the same thing for his family and coworkers. Both shows also have some sad episodes, but also a very healthy portion of humor.

Both the shows are about children and their daily lives and the environment is also pretty similar. The only difference is that Promised Neverland is a bit dark. This anime is like a happy and positive version of promised Neverland.

Both are book-based slice of life stories set in history and made by the same director. The story focus on the characterization of a children group. Both series highly emphasize on educational values in various ways. Nan to Jo sensei is episodic in nature while The Black Brothers tend to be more dramatic and regular in the narrative.

Both based on the books and movies. It highlights on the importance of family, especially the children. Mrs. Jo and Maria also shares the same motherly approach when dealing with kids.
