Both anime are: * Movie * Begining of the romance in a rainy day * Both characters don't know each other before they met in a rainy day * Beautiful romance * The endings are similars Differences: * Kotonoha... is set in our time while Harukanaru... is set in a past era * Kotonoha... could be true 'cos has real ambience while Harukanaru... has a bit of fantasy

Both are about spirits and beautiful romance. In both anime the girl falls in love with a spirit, Harukanaru although the movie is longer, the romance is deeper with beautiful graphics and plot. Hotarubi has drama just like Harukanaru, where you will shed tears. The differences are that in Harukanaru there are more characters involving around the female protagonist while in Hotarubi there are little minor characters

Both are in the same era and are about romance, although Genji is more slow and mature, HarukaToki Maihitoyo is greater.

If you like Fushigi Yuugi watch Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Maihitoyo~ it basically has the same concept, a girl from another world arrives and becomes the priestess of that land. Unlike Fushigi Yuugi, it doesn't have the "mushy" stuff although you might like the handsome guys! This is actually the movie for its TV series; "Harukanaru Toki no Naka de ~Hachiyou Shou~. Better watch the TV series first before watching this movie. This is one of the anime movies that made me cry, so I really recommend you guys to watch this!
