On May 29,2024 anime studio Gainax filed for bankruptcy, and thus became the final nail in the coffin of the once great titan of the anime industry. To many this came as no surprise. Decades of bad business decisions had finally caught up to them. But still it was sad to see them go. However, rather than dwell on the depressing aspects of Gainax fall from grace, I would rather look back on the legacy they built.
The studio was formed in the early 1980s as Daicon Film by university students Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Hiroyuki Yamaga, Takami Akai, Toshio Okada, Yasuhiro Takeda and Shinji Higuchi. After the success of their first two anime shorts for the conventions of Daicon III and IV, they firmly established themselves as a talented new anime studio. They would later change their name to Gainax in 1985, basing the term "Gainax" on an obscure Tottori Prefecture term for "giant", with the English suffix -x added because it sounded "good and was international"
Gainax presented themselves as a “by fans, for fans” studio and through it’s ups and downs Gainax lived up to that phrase, for better and for worst. Though the studio is now gone, it’s legacy will live on through both studio Trigger and studio Khara. Here is the list of from the house that Gainax built.

Notes: With a few exception, sequel seasons and/or movies will not be included on the list so that there is room for everthing.
Notes: Even though only the last Rebuild of EVA film is on this list you should watch all of them.
Honorable mentions: There are two anime at the end of the list that warrant being a part of the Gainax legacy. Punch Line was directed by Yutaka Uemura, who also directed Dantalian no Shoka, has a style and story that would be right at home with other Gainax shows. Finally, Grendizer U, produced at studio Gaina, formerly Fukushima Gainax, honors old Gainax’s fandom roots.

As one of the most successful and long-running Magical Girl franchises out there, Pretty Cure has resulted in many references in other works, especially anime. List compiled by tvtropes, precure wiki and partially myself.

Anime with similar names. For some entries only the English title sounds similar and for some only the Japanese title sounds similar.

There’s just something magnetic about watching a character who’s completely unstoppable. Whether they’re crushing enemies with a flick of the wrist or staying ten steps ahead in every battle, overpowered protagonists scratch that unbeatable itch. This stack is all about those characters who rewrite the rules, walk into impossible odds without breaking a sweat, and still leave the battlefield cleaner than they found it. No struggle, just straight flex.

But this isn’t just about brute strength—these picks are about style, charisma, and that unmatched aura. Some are comedic powerhouses, others are stoic legends, and a few are just casually chilling with god-tier abilities like it’s no big deal. One thing’s for sure: once they show up, the whole show bends around them. Let’s kick off with 50 anime where the MC doesn’t just win… they dominate.

First of all, sorry for my English, i can understand and read but writing isn't my forte (i can't even writing Portuguese well lol).

I want to make this list to help find new series to watch, instead of looking for more than 215 seasons.

My criteria were:

1. Popular; 2. Maybe Lost Gems; 3. Good parameter to be aware of the industry;

DISCLAIMER:

1. I don't have watch everything, but they were series i have faith or are good to understand;
2. I am not afraid to be wrong, so if someday i watch any anime in this list and find its bad or really doesn't matter at all, i will retire from this list;
3. If you know some anime that isn't in this list, you can tell me and i create a list called "lost tapes" and put there, but if i don't like it i won't been add;
4. I dont put remakes in this list or sequels, so animes like HxH 2011 or Urusei Yatsura 2022 won't appear in this list, but the OGs will;
5. Yes, this list HAVE SHIT ANIMES! (in my opinion, you don't know what is really good if don't watch some bad things) but don't worry, i just add bad things popular (like Platinum End, Hamestu Mars and etc); And last
6. My scores doesn't matter for this list, i won't put my personal opinion in this list, so there are animes i hate (like Sono Bisque Doll) but i know a lot of people like, so isn't fair i retire animes i don't like just for pride.

That's all i want to speak, i hope this list helps someone.

There was a time when being deep into anime wasn’t cool it was a lifestyle you didn’t just watch shows you lived in them your walls were posters your playlists were full of openings and endings and you knew every frame of that one AMV that made you cry at 2am even though you were too young to know why. Otakucore isn’t a genre it’s a feeling the messy obsession the glow of an old monitor the way a scene sticks to your brain like a dream you didn’t want to wake up from. These aren’t just anime these are a part of someone’s soul burned into their adolescence like cigarette smoke in a hoodie.
