Are they ever going to get together? They already did! So do they do anything from there? They do! They talk about whether they're progressing at a good pace in their relationship.
Jokes are creative and delivered well and the most important part, funny. That's the main draw. It's willing to play with expectations, which is the most important part of a comedy or in my opinion, any anime.
I've never gotten impatient with any of the characters, which is a job well done for a romcom. Even the worst case, Fudou, is aware and not content to be the idiot he is, and that's what

makes all the difference.
Ecchi is on point. Not overly distracting and the show doesn't rely on it to keep viewer interest. Rather, it's funny and cute and a good bonus, the way ecchi should be.
You'd expect a romcom like this to have fairly one dimensional characters and it does. Except, Desumi's relationships with her family and Fudou's family are super interesting. I am excited to see it plays out and I'm keeping an eye on her cat.
Some slice of life moments have really good animation. The OP and ED are fun and I like the song for the ED too. I love seeing Desumi do her makeup and ride the rollercoaster.
What a nice, cheerful bundle of joy.

They have big foreheads and weird but cute outfits and do silly ninja things when they're not calling men gross and smelly. Look at the poster.
Comedy is good if you can ignore the girl that likes to eat. Each episode is split into two short stories, usually focusing on a specific team, but sometimes advancing the plot.
The ED changes based on the characters they focus on for the episode, who themselves are very lively and diverse. Animation is also amazing during the action sequences.
As you can see, this anime was made to satisfy a certain audience. It does that job well.

I liked this show, at least for the first three episodes. Then I saw what everyone was complaining about. And I can look past that.
Animation is clean and on point. ED has catchy music (bell chimes and disco) and an original idea - Shikimori playing a rhythm game to block everything that's flying at Izumi. Izumi's voice acting might exacerbate the problems people have with his character.
Starting in the middle of their relationship allows their past history to be slowly revealed, without having the audience wonder if they'll ever actually get together. But it doesn't look like the show is interested in how they met.

Also, the biggest complaint character-wise is that Izumi is too weak, as he's afraid of a clown horror movie and literally gets hurt by sunlight. Probably would have been forgivable if he had a personality. Izumi has hopelessly bad luck so he can get into trouble without having to make any bad decisions of his own. Gary Stus aren't necessarily bad if they are used to explore the world and characters around them, but Izumi doesn't do that.
I mistook Shikimori's glare at the guys giving Izumi a hard time as character development. So I come to the conclusion that her character could have been further fleshed out if we were able to explore her jealousy issues, but again, this show doesn't want to develop Shikimori or Izumi. You know what? That's forgivable. Yet Kamiya, as the most interesting character, doesn't get any screen time. The other characters don't exist to do anything beyond support the main couple. Izumi is unlucky and Shikimori saves him. Shikimori worries about seeming more girly/submissive and Izumi the opposite, and that's it for the conflict. I said a lack of character development wasn't that big of an issue, because this is the real problem. The conflict doesn't evolve. It doesn't get worse or better.
For all it's worth, the anime does a fine job setting up simple supporting characters and has some good, sugary, heartwarming moments. Kamiya is interesting because we see Shikimori's coolness isn't always a good thing. Shuu and Kyou are decent wingmen, I guess. Hachitmitsu's dumb smile, although a small detail, makes her funnier than other anime characters that fit the same role. The mom is easily a likable person and she tries to alleviate how we see her son's wimpiness by bragging about his perpetually considerate nature. Actually, it's incredible how much this show would improve if Izumi had his mother's lightly teasing personality.
The idea of a girl taking the lead isn't novel anymore and thus people see this show as boring. At least Shikimori doesn't turn into a full-on psycho whenever she saves Izumi. Given how passive Izumi already is, imagine how obnoxious this show would be if she regularly thrashes her boyfriend and he just laughs it off. So why do I like Shikimori is Not Just a Cutie? Because it's the wish-fulfillment fantasy of being in a *healthy* *relationship* with a confident, *mature* girl. Given how most anime romance is, I'm starving for this sort of thing.

This is the cutest anime I have and possibly will ever see.
It's a major improvement over the manga. In the manga, Fushihara is named "corporate slave" and too much of it is just her calling Yuurei and friends cute (the anime does toe that line though, as the ghost girl likes to say "Go Home" a bit too much). They added a voice changing megaphone, which actually adds a lot to the story. Also there are shifts in color in the anime and lots of cleanly drawn scenes, which are a nice touch. My favorite detail is how the ghosts write their notes entirely

in hiragana. The ghost part works beautifully and adds a lot to the show.
This show knows exactly what it is and does not fail to deliver. Actually, I'm wrong. This show delivers well beyond what you'd initially expect from it.

Overhyped, carried by animation. Various generic premises glued together, but that passes for originality these days.
The humor is surprisingly good at times, but not enough to carry the show, which is fatal for a comedy.
Loid is a cold, unfeeling spy that needs to learn about human emotion. This adult taking care of a random unruly kid trope is old, with a thin veneer of spy film theme.

Anya is a nice, vanilla cute kid. Nothing that makes you think she has a personality beyond that. She likes spy movies and peanuts. But I will say her fear of crowds is the first step to making her an actual human being.
Great animation. Art is bland but well done. Music is forgettable but again, well done. Spy jazz in the OP, music video aesthetics in the ED. Spy x Family certainly likes to play it safe, huh?
People keep telling me the manga is amazing, but these are the same people who think the first three episodes were masterpieces. Not even close.

Every week, I look forward to this anime the most. Gotta have my hard-boiled mafia golf lesbians.
You probably won't like this anime if you're expecting realistic golf or slice of life. It has everything but those. I am also probably missing a ton of action anime references, but even I can tell this anime loves them. And that's evidence Birdie Wing has heart.
The golf ball is CGI. Think it's to draw attention to the ball, because whenever I watch golf or baseball or any sport with tiny balls, I'm always wondering where the ball is. The car scenes are full 2D and well-animated, so it's

not like the animators don't care. The golf scenes aren't bad either.
When it comes to the story, I'm particularly interested in the family and the caddies. The main characters seem to have interesting histories we don't know about yet. Groundwork is laid out excellently.
The music is great. It opens up with jazz, music sounds fantastic during tense moments, the ED wraps up cleanly, and the OP lyrics... are really something.
Has the same feel as Bee Train's "girls with guns trilogy" so if you're a fan of that, you might want to give this show a try. Birdie Wing certainly pierced my heart this season.

Akebi's Sailor Uniform is a great dream while it lasts. And then I realized it's a dream I'll never get back.
Akebi is a Mary Sue because that's what a teenage girl would write in her fantasy. You'll see a lot of girls with their own problems. Too short, too tall, too inexperienced, too fat, a projection of all the worries a middle-school girl would have. All one-note characters, but after learning notes, you proceed to understand chords. It's girl of the week until everything is tied together.
Hebimori's episode does a great job on the music. You will be wondering why a piano is playing

instead of guitar music. It's interesting because the story goes from using Akebi as a lens to explore the school to needing Akebi to keep everything together.
The fanservice is certainly artistic but I think of it as something to live with. As we grow into adults, we learn to restrain ourselves. Yet as a middle-schooler, Akebi and friends don't quite have that sense of self-control. Thus, the show focuses on "socially-acceptable" things to stare at like armpits and feet and turns it up to eleven.
Animation is great, art is great, the OP starts off strong and energetic. The ED is tragically fuzzy and nostalgic and the father can barely take any time off to see his family. I don't think I've cried to an anime as much as this one.

Sick of only hearing about police brutality, reactionary men's rights advocacy, and slick TV crime dramas? Police in a Pod spits in the face of all of that. Police in a Pod is what you'd call a "true slice of life".
Police in a Pod does something amazing - the serious scenes are intentionally brain-dead predictable. By not introducing some crazy plot twist, it gives itself room to present each situation for what it is. It's like an adult sitting you down and explaining to you an uncomfortable concept. No hot takes, just what it is and what it feels like. And it always tops off

by having Kawai redeem her stupidity in other ways.
The show goes in depth into how much it sucks for women working for the police in Japan and also how women really do have their strengths and weaknesses compared to men. I had a friend joke that he came out of the anime hating men. And this anime makes it easy to see why policewomen tend to that side too.
Jokes get a bit stale as it leads to the end, but pulls up fantastically for the ending. The ending is easily the best part of the show, and I wish they used more of that instead of the more general workplace comedy.
Art gets the job done. Story is good and actually picks up at the end. CG cars, strange for a police anime but not that crazy once you realize it isn't about the chases. I didn't notice the music.
The one thing this show fails to do, however, is convince anyone watching this to join the police. Japanese police work culture is nuts.

This show is unique. It's like watching a little kid cheer that he got his story about snail helicopters greenlit for an anime.
I was worried that the "random animals coming out of nowhere" gimmick would get old. It did. I'm surprised it managed to last that long - two thirds of the show - before it got stale.
Not sure why people didn't pay attention to a Yu Gi Oh card game in the middle of the show, but the writer tries to make it crystal clear that he is willing to sacrifice plot points and believable character interactions for funny fights, cool lines, and

a sprinkle of hot romance. This entire show is about saving the best for stuff you like and leaving the rest to rot. Did they pick an inexperienced animation studio because of this? You gotta admire the commitment.
There are two scenes towards the end where the characters are put through a ton of pain. Or so we are led to believe, as it's jarring how unconvincingly these characters act. Perhaps the writer was uncomfortable with the viewers getting a thrill from seeing such horrible situations. That would have been a great message, if the writer had alluded to this. But as it stands, these two scenes stick out and drag down an otherwise great experience.
The second to last episode drags out a fight for half of it. Normally, I'd overlook this, but after the Yu Gi Oh gamble and the climax, another mess up makes it three unenjoyable episodes in a row. What annoys me most is that the episodes leading up to the ending can't be skipped, so everyone that picks up this show is going to have to sit through a slow, painful death. Until it picks up for the ending! Bisco nails the ending.
The show starts off confusing, but doesn't stay that way. And if an idiot like me can understand it, the storytelling can't be that bad. Music is phenomenal, voice acting is great (especially Kurokawa's!), post-apocalyptic art is sexy, originality and coolness are off the charts. It'll probably be a decade until people can appreciate the cheesy 3D though.
Overall, it's an ambitious project that doesn't end up being the cult classic it wanted to be, despite its optimistic start.

Usually I don't have a problem with subs, but I have to warn you, it is easy to miss out on a lot if you insist on not watching the dubbed version.
I couldn't tell who was talking sometimes and they do not repeat themselves. The cat in particular has a quiet delivery and likes to practice his poetry, so I found myself zoning out a lot and having to rewind, which ironically ruined the flow. And I probably didn't pay enough attention to the visuals either.

sweet, and the characters are really well done. I'm rating this very nicely because this would have been an amazing experience if I had known that the show would have been much better dubbed.
