I think it's at its best at the beginning. I enjoyed the whole of Part 1 a lot, but thought the first two or so episodes were the best. Part 2 fell off a lot for me, probably only enjoyed it half as much, if even. If I were you, who didn't enjoy the first few episodes which were the best imo, I'd drop it now.

Huh. Coming into this thread I genuinely expected the person who posted this to just be baiting for hate on a show they didn't like, which is commonplace on MAL, but given that you seem like you genuinely haven't watched that many series, I think now is a good time for you to learn a simple lesson: it's okay to drop shows you don't like, regardless of how much others have enjoyed it.

Asking people "when a show gets good" is pointless if you've watched more than three episodes and still don't enjoy it by that point; 99% of series don't really deviate from the initial vibe they've set in the beginning (non-inclusive of first episode plot twists like Deca-Dence or School Live). If the vibe doesn't suit you, it just doesn't suit you. This is especially true for slice of life shows like Spy x Family; if you dont enjoy the vibe it has now, you wont enjoy it any time soon no matter how many episodes you watch, because it simply isn't for you, and that's okay.

Option 1: Give up on it now. The whole show is similar to the first few eps.

Option 2: Recognize that hype skews judgment and accept Spy x Family solely for its own merits (or lack of). Try to approach it from a neutral perspective.

I pray for the day when people stop letting hype affect their expectations. Things that are still pretty darn good, like Spy x Fam imo, get overhyped to such proportions that they then can't live up to expectations at all. This happens so often in the anime fandom and it pollutes interesting or constructive discourse with a constant back and forth about whether the show deserves popularity.

Imo the first few episodes are the strongest. If you haven't enjoyed what you've already seen, you probably are not enjoy the rest of it.

I think a lot of peoples problem with this show is that it wasn’t what they were expecting. It definitely becomes very Anya focused and the whole spy plot/anything non-Anya felt hugely underwhelming. Some people love the focus on Anya, some people dont. So if youre at 5 episodes, you’re even less invested than I was (and I still quit further along bc of the reasons stated above).
