To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this anime. I thought it would be another gantz or battle royalle (the japanese movie). I'm surprised at how the plot is smartly twisted and very emotional. Well, it's predictable that our hero, Amano Yukite will win the game, but the story and how it is told is very captivating. Therefore, this anime deserves a 9.
Detailed Review
Characters - 10
This anime has successfully made me love a character in one episode and hate him/her in the next one, vice versa. Characters are developed, story of them (their background,etc) are being told clearly (exception for some). Well, that's understandable considering on the number of characters this anime had. It is executed brilliantly with some plot twist, flash backs, and many more surprise that this anime has to offer.
Story - 9
Who would expect that it would end that way? Every episodes ending always left me hanging and it always gave me the urge to watch the next one. One of the disappointment is that some things are not explained. I'm now still wondering how deus chose the player. I'm still wondering how each character got their numbering. I'm still wandering about how Yuno is already a G** however she is not in the se**** wor** (gosh these are some spoilers). Although most of it is magnificent and unexpected, there are still some loop holes and unexplained matters. Overall, it has a good and very creative plot. I love how they kept me hanging even at the last episode.
Art - 8
The lighting, colour composition and smoothness will definitely pamper your eye. Characters are occasionally drawn in a different state to show their personality. There are definitely some confidence in the art. Gore and blood are not drawn hesitantly. Beautiful background, however some of the drawing are a bit exaggerated, it turns out to be ugly.
Sound - 8
Not the best, but it is very suiting for the theme of the anime. They are simple, stunning and completely complement the story telling. It brings out suspense, mistery and sometimes emotions.
Therefore, mirai nikki deserved the 9 because it has fabulous plot, lovable characters (and detestable ones too) and colourful drawings. It is twisted, but definitely it is straight.
