I consider Cool Devices to be a groundbreaking work of Art that still to this day explores many weird and twisted areas of sexuality that has most definitely influenced many other Doujin/Hentai creators to this very day.
Animation
Well generally the animation is consistent throughout the series but I found some episodes to be animated quite differently (more poorly) than others. Considering how old this is as well (1995) I have to say I was impressed upon my first viewing and am still quite impressed today.
Sound
Lol when it comes to Hentai (like porn) you pretty much know what to expect audio-wise so generally it was fine. Initially this series was only released in Japanese Audio with English subs up until 2005 when a digitally remastered 10th anniversary edition was released which now includes a new English dub, I’m guessing this was due to the series popularity.
Story
A very unique collection of stories labelled “Operations”. This series contains eleven operations that basically go through a vast amount of genres: BDSM, Incest, Fantasy, Thriller & Abduction to name but a few.
These stories are quite twisted and as I remember it was the first time I actually saw a few of those kinds of sexual activities (yes I know innocence is cute lol) even today I still find some of the stories quite intriguing and perplexing e.g. Operation 4 - Kirei…bottomless pits anyone?!? ……Very interesting indeed.
Character
Characters are just as weird and diverse as the many different stories they come from. Once again I found some characters/stories more interesting than others for example the girl in arguably the most notorious episode Operation 7: Yellow Star!
Enjoyment
It’s actually been awhile since I watched Cool Devices but I did enjoy it then and am looking forward to watching the remastered edition someday.
Value
You don’t have to be perverted to enjoy Cool Devices, yes it’s extreme, yes it’s for adults but it still stands on its own as a cult classic so in that respect I would say it has very high value.
I don’t really mix Hentai with my anime collection but I feel Cool Devices is just one of those must-have unique classics.
