Black Lagoon is an action packed thrill ride without a filter. The action scenes are animated wonderfully and there are very few times when the animation dips under its high standards.

The characters are well developed and interesting. Personally I enjoyed the character that was Balalaika the Russian mafia leader. The show itself is mainly in the episodic format, but with the same characters. There are a few 2 and 3 episode arcs but there really is no overarching story line.
Episodes are hit or miss, with some being amazing, others being creepy as hell and some just kind of falling short.

The music was not to my liking, but that was purely based on personal taste. The music is often quite atmospheric and sets the tone before and during scenes.

Note:
If you find that you like the show and are not satisfied with the final arc in the second season, I highly recommend the four part OVA: Roberta's blood trail. I feel it acts as a better ending to the series than the final arc.

Basic Idea: We follow the exploits of the Lagoon company, a black market transportation and guns for hire company (close to modern day pirates...kinda). We see things through the eyes of our main protagonist Rock, a Japanese businessman who is new to this life of action.
