Both have a feudal warlord taking over the nation kind of thing. Both have strong and cute female cast members and the male protagonist in both is not useless.
Both protagonists are trying to unite the world in a feudal era with touches of fantasy.

Both anime have huge large scale battles that are in the style of Feudal Japan. Both anime have compelling stories and great characters as well as both main characters are people who are sort of outsiders to the world they are in, both figuratively and literally. I'd recommend either one of these anime.
