haha completely wrong. from what i gather, with physics being my best subject and maths my worse (if you don't count languages xD), physics require simply understanding of concepts. the maths part is just very very basic applications of multiplication and such. as for maths, well... frankly i don't quite see the point. ask a maths teacher what exactly is a radian, and possibly even she can't answer...

umineko? my friend gave me a very terrible impression of it. if memory serves, she described it as 'random non-stop killings which resolve nothing'. though hold on, the exact same sentence could possibly apply to higurashi. xD

strawberr127 | 11-18-09, 6:51 AM
ah... well, i'm not too fantastic at either... though history is among my fav subjects, my marks simply aren't consistent. xD my best is physics though. =D

okie! now at least i have an idea what to look out for. i shall try to be a bit more active when watching higurashi then! for all i know, this may be the first time i actually 'interact' *in a way* with an anime

Ottocycle | 11-17-09, 6:36 PM
Well we can say that it has certainly found its place, even though its small. Rarity breeds value in my opinion, somewhat. I should get to watching Emma sometime, just for that piece or something.

I need to go back and listen to that AMG TV OP. I liked it a lot back in the day, but I can't even think up the tune now. Though I remember the bagpipes second season OP quite well. :( Thanks for the reminder.

so when you try to solve things, do you solve within that single arc or do (i'm hoping for this) the arcs actually join up enough later for us to see some sorta pattern? hehe but you remind me of the kinda student my history tecaher would want. she kept emphasizing that history is not for the intellectually lazy people ie. me. once i watch anime, i hardly ever think. xD

strawberr127 | 11-15-09, 5:56 AM
so far form what i gather, it seems that higurashi is just different senarios of what can happen in the same time period, and well... all with a bloody end. frankly, this isn't a very delighting discovery cause i can't help thinking 'is this show for extreme sadists?'

Ottocycle | 11-15-09, 12:40 AM
Hey, The Corrs was my favourite pop group when they started out! :P
(I didn't know they incorporated elements of Irish folk music into their initial style back then though)

I think it's the tin whistle and violin combination that supplies the rustic atmosphere that you speak of. I think I hear a mandolin-ish thing going on too sometimes, but I can't say for sure. Seriously, it still gets me everytime, especially the tin whistle. And well, I'd say that not many anime(not sure about games) have the sort of setting which Celtic music best complements. I'd sure would not want it to become another square peg in a round hole. :)

Ottocycle | 11-14-09, 6:52 PM
Ah, that track is it. Should've expected it to have been nominated actually. :P
I have to agree about the novel qualities of that piece, but back then I couldn't place it due to my utter lack of knowledge about Celtic music.

Thanks for the heads-up.

And you just made me realise that I've let Aoi Hana and another rare Haketa score go past me undetected. I'll definitely need to get to it after this busy spell. He really is good with his pleasantly light and atmospheric themes (and keeping a rather low profile while at it too).

I remember being bowled over by some tracks from his Someday's Dreamers score (I forgot the title, but especially the one which starts off with a light piano and ends with children singing the same tune).

Ottocycle | 11-13-09, 1:41 AM
Can't blame you for Sawano actually. He only shot into my spotlight with Gigantic Formula a mere two years ago, and would've continued staying out of my radar with mediocre shows like Soul Link and Zombie Loan if not for that. I'm just happy he's getting more limelight as being able to compose for hit franchises like Basara and Gundam.

Though when looking on the realistic side, I'd tend to think hiring him is a rather cost-effective decision right now since he definitely doesn't command as much authority (and hence remuneration value) in the profession as, say Sahashi. For that brand of epic, it's definitely a big bargain for any anime production commitee.

As for Haketa, you're probably just unlucky for not discovering him. I only watched Someday's Dreamers a year ago. :P

The biggest thing the club has done for me is making me rewatch Cowboy Bebop. I must've been a block of wood to not have noticed those insert songs the first time. So I'm learning my lesson and using headphones this time around.

haha guess that really shows how many different types of people there are in this world lol. i definitely don't want to be top, but generally i prefer to be above average. but i know many people who don't understand my 'strive for better' mentality, since they are people who take things at their own pace. they still produce good work, nonetheless, but they take less time to recover from a setback than i do. xD

oh, so that's how it is. ok, now it seems promising. though somehow, the story being told from different points of view kinda reminds me of baccano. i hope i won't get too confused by higurashi. XD

strawberr127 | 11-12-09, 7:49 PM
sometimes when taking such courses, i get depressed at myself when i realise just how many talented people there are in the world. like right now i'm in choir, and before, i was quite happy with my range until i saw the other members'. hm.... maybe some stuff are better off without knowing. xD

i have one friend who likes classical too, but unlike yours, she's very ambiguous in her explanation. till now, i don't think i've learnt much from her..

the first 4 episodes kinda freaked me out, though i really wonder how this series is presented, since well... the main charcaters die in the 4th episode...

Ottocycle | 11-12-09, 8:26 AM
Ooh, I see SYNCHRONICITY on your playlist. It still feels like week 1 wasn't too long ago for me too.

strawberr127 | 11-11-09, 7:10 PM
oh i see.but i think it was a very good opportunity, since well, most people don't even get the chance to learn such things. our school have a music elective program too, for those talented in music to take, and it covers a wide range too. though it's supposed to be really tough, i sometimes envy those people because such information is spoon fed to them, while i have to go search up tonnes of stuff before i can find such things.

haha my idea of circle of fifths is even worse. the only thing i know is: it sounds very nice! ^=^ i probably won't spot it unless i listen to every note really carefully.

i've never tried that before. ok, mental note to do that next time! nowadays i've also having a lot of fun writing reviews, so i do want to improve fast. =D

strawberr127 | 11-11-09, 6:41 AM
haha i think my problem is that anime can have too many takes to it. but whoa! at leats you have a college course. my understanding of music is only reliant on whatever i've learnt and read. and i'm starting to regret i didn't pick up theory earlier. >.< (i hated theory so much i would draaaaggg all my work...)

haha i'm the exact opposite. i take advantage of that weakness in real-life debates and usually just bomb my opponent before he can think of rebuttals. xD for me, my thoughts won't really get more coherent if given more time, but i always have the problem with expressing my thoughts.
