The first Episodes and the following first Episodes can be quite average.
I know that it can be for many people. So maybe for you as well.
But it will improve a lot afterwards.

Oh, I've bought the Death Note complete box set, and for a bargain too - only £35! That's like £25-35 off the original XD It'll be here in a few days, I can't wait!
Right now I'm in exam period so it'll be hard to watch things now. Once that's over (in about two months) I plan to blast through all my shows so I can get to re-watching and learning how to photoshop (I can NOT do this for the life of me)
Huh? I didn't mean your passion for art to be an airhead or anything. Art IS a very important factor (though old art can add a touch of character to the show), otherwise why would there be a criteria for art when reviewing? I think my favourite art is from Fullmetal Alchemist - I just love how everyone isn't a stick-thin stereotyped looking character. It's unique, refreshing and easy on the eyes.
Oh, I see you really liked Kuroshitsuji. Have you seen the new trailer?
The new 'Ciel' looks really cute (I wasn't a fan of Ciel's brattiness to be honest) but the Butler...meh. Can't say much for him =/

I understand what you mean about the art changing from the manga to anime transistion, I hated the changes they made in the Fruits Basket anime adaption -- it really ticked me off.
Yeah, I've been meaning to re-watch a lot of anime but I've been stupid enough to start like 8 shows -_- I've re-watched Death Note, Ouran and Gravitation to death (about 4 times each) so now I want to do Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and even other anime that I disliked. But since I watched them waaay back when my patience was low, I want to see if it really is that bad as I thought it was.
Shoujo does tend to get overhyped, maybe because the ratio of shounen to shoujo shows being released is relatively low; so when a show does come out its overhyped like hell.
Lol, I know how you love your art! Argh, you really have to watch Gankutsuou, you'll never see art quite like it!
Mmm, I've only watched 4 episodes of Gintama so far so I can't really form an opinion yet. I've been busy with so many other anime/manga that I'm almost ignoring it >.> Don't worry I will watch it.
