Initially, I didn't like this anime. That's why I left it on hold for literally years. But the aesthetics are solid and I needed another mystery anime to watch, so I decided to go back to it and see if it gets better. It did.
The biggest flaw is definitely that the beginning is pretty cliche anime humor, but it quickly gets more complex from there. I just finished it a couple of weeks ago and I am already rewatching it. I wouldn't say it's perfect or a masterpiece, there are definitely flaws. But the plot and characters are both deeply interesting. I can't say too

Edit: Have now completed the series and my opinion has changed. It got a lot better. It is actually very good. This went from like a 2-3 to like an 8-10. I love it. I wish I could see more of Muraki but the series is over. They really went all out on the character development. Even the MC (Suzuki) who I at first thought was boring turned into an *extremely compelling* character. Bestie I love this anime. I cannot explain why. It is not great writing, objectively, not a spectacular anime. Still rated it a 9 because of how much I love it and enjoy watching it, and rewatching it, and rewatching it to show it to others. I could not rate it a 10 and keep my dignity but I wanted to.
It has that classic nostalgic feel of a slightly campy, cheesy, and cringey shonen-ai that wasn't Quite Brave Enough to actually canonize the main relationship in the anime. (There are kisses though! And the two main characters are insanely cute and funny when they interact!) ... |
