This series was one of my all-time favorites growing up along with other timeless shows such as Doraemon, Shin-chan, Ninja Hattori and Kochikame.
It's such a simple premise, yet the ingenuity and creativity shown from each episode makes it refreshing. If you are looking for a chill easy to watch anime then your search is over. An anime doesn't need to have a great story, stunning art and music from popular bands. Enjoyment knows no such thing. Sometimes it is just the way characters interact in a particular scenario or just the sheer ridiculous answers the Hagemaru gives to questions that will make you laugh, but

you will laugh.

General (TL;DR) - Oyasumi Punpun by Inio Asano is one of the best comming-of-age slice-of-life manga to have ever been published. It's surreal design, interesting lot of characters and the constant plot cliffhangers drive its readers into a sweat dream.
Story - It follows the daily life of a middle school boy - Punpun and his adventures as he progresses in adulthood. Despite the boring sounding story it actually is a masterpiece at telling it. These adventures quickly become dramatic events that scar him forever. The story is about family, love, society, religion, nihilism, existentialism and much much more. something unique to take from this story and connect to themselves. The only downside is a couple of plot-lines involving a character by the name of "Pegasus" (that's not his real name). I didn't understand this character to the extend of other characters and his purpose in the story seemed undefined to me.
Art - Oyasumi Punpun's art is unlike anything I've seen before. I am not saying it's some beautiful art like in Berserk, for the most part it's just decently good. But the writer employs so much from the art; like the changes in Punpun's life and mood are depicted through his various designs, the random scenes of the city buildings out of nowhere, the chose of spacing in the pages too signify meaning. To experience the art yourself just read the first chapter and you'll know it firsthand.
Characters - Characters are one of the strong-suits of Oyasumi Punpun. All of the characters are individually solid and it's interesting to watch when they interact with each other. Their actions, philosophies, personalities and choices are well justified. They are easy to get attached to.
Enjoyment - Too damn much enjoyment from an unexpected source. After the first few chapters I got addicted to the Manga and continuously read it until my eyes were sore. This is also attributed to the amount of cliffhangers and dramatic moments in the story.
Oyasumi Punpun is an adult Manga to say the least. It's not due to its depiction of sexual content, but more so due to the heavy content and adult life shown through an emotionally deprivating perspective. I was constantly haunted by this manga wondering about its characters and the scenes depicted after completing it. I recommend to go slow and enjoy reading rather than being a compulsive and a cynic. Take care - the things we love love to destroy us.

In this day and age of mindless gluttonous consumption of anime season after season we have deluded our tongues to only savor the utmost of the gourmet dishes. We adjust our critiquing glasses and analyze the shows as 'deep', 'fast-paced', 'symbolic' and most of all a 'modern commentary'. In our society of high expecting monkeys comes the 20th Pokemon movie flipping off Einstein and taking us back to the end of the millennia.
Story - It's basically the same story that kick started your venture into anime with a few new Pokemon added to still keep it original.
Art - We can see some stellar artwork that

is consistent. The colors are phenomenally used hand-in-hand with the story and is just a bonus over your hormonal body.
Sound - Nothing extraordinary other than the gargantuan dose of nostalgia injected in you as soon as the opening and Pokemon cries kick in.
Characters - The same good old (young) Ash with his trusty Pikachu.
Enjoyment - Now forget all the descriptions of the sound and characters and story and all and just ask yourself - Am I a Pokemon fan? If yes, just watch it and join eternal bliss and if not, then why are you reading this review?
We have put these highly over the top expectations from anime that they simply can't deliver and a lifetime of gourmet foods will even exhaust your tongue. So relax, remember the pizza you ate when you were 10, how good it was, and nothing would compare. That's Pokemon, nothing to analyze, everything to enjoy.

Kimi no Na wa or Your Name is Makoto Shinkai's highly critically acclaimed hit and the highest grossing anime movie till date. Your Name is definitely deserving of these achievements.
Story - The story in Your Name is quite cliche but manages to still be entertaining enough through its charm and cuteness. As the movie progresses though the atmosphere gets more otherworldly and gloomy to symbolize the nature of its first climax; yes, this movie has two climaxes. In the later part the movie gets a bit repetitive but at this point it's already cradling you and your melted heart. However, some of the mechanics that

the movie uses to tell the story like time travel and soul-switching aren't expanded and explained convincingly enough. These plot voids could lead you to be disappointed but his movie is for the sake of entertainment, not exactly for the plot (but I understand if you feel otherwise).
Art - Really...? It's Makoto Shinkai... that says enough about the art already. Pure 10/10, better than reality, orgasm worthy art. The only thing that falls behind are the character designs as they just feel too anime-esque for the art-style of the setting, not that they are bad, they just don't compliment the background well enough.
Sound - Phenomenal soundtracks that perfectly go with the rest of the movie. The soundtracks aren't many and could feel repetitive but that won't be too much of a problem. The OP is stellar and, in my opinion, only falls behind in the voice of the singer. Other than that the piano and violin will soften your heart to the core.
Characters - Just like the story the characters could also feel cliche but that's what make them relatable. The side characters are also developed thoroughly and don't feel bland with their fair share of screen-time and usefulness. These characters provide multiple perspectives and personalities in their interactions with each other which is just as interesting as the main characters.
Your Name had me almost crying which isn't something normal for me to do or for anime to make you do. This anime is a must-watch even for even non-anime viewers and trust me - you won't be disappointed.

Death Note is at the precipice of all psychological thriller anime. It's one of the anime that could be recommended to anyone without hesitation due to it's universally applicable themes.
Story - Death Note follows the story of a high school genius - Light Yagami that is bored with his life and encounters a Death Note from a shinigamiwith the power to kill anyone. he starts passing judgments on criminals and soon develops a moral rival, the super detective - L. It's the perfect cat and mouse chase with philosophical themes such as justice and judging right and wrong.
Art - The Art-style remains pretty consistent

and realistic reminiscent of the realistic themes of the show. It isn't shy from appearing Gothic and biblical to again show it's themes and Light's narcissistic portrayal of a god. Death Note's first opening the WORLD bleeds with christian symbolism and foreshadows the events of the show.
Sound - Death Note has many memorable soundtracks like - L's theme, Light's theme, Low of Solipsism etc. They are all perfect for setting up the mood and the scene. However, they are all comprised of the same ingredients - choir, piano, guitar and occasional drums. This makes the soundtracks indistinguishable from one another but nevertheless they are evoking.
Characters - All the characters fulfill a specific role in the anime and their morals dealing with the situation makes for an entertaining show. The main characters are polar opposites and the supporting characters provide emotions such as Love - Misa, Humor - Matsuda, Pride - Soichiro Yagami and Nihilism - Ryuk.
This anime is best to be birdwatched alone because the suspense will kill you and talk to some friends after seeing this anime as you'll be in a state of depression because such a fine piece of art has ended :)
