Wow. This anime, in itself, is a classic and is a must see for anyone who watches anime. It doesn't matter if you are into Mechas, Harems, Fighting, or any of the other genres; you will love this anime.
Story:
The anime is based off a book series that has made awards. The way it tells its story is like Galaxy Express 999 just its not linear. The events are placed to give you the feeling that you know whats going on. Each episode has a moral that has a real-life uses. Most of the events could happen in real life. You also find yourself relating to
...
the main character Kino as she goes through her travels through the many countries she visits.
Art:
The designs of all the characters, main or background, are done in the style of the old classics. It felt like watching an old anime from the 80's just remastered with the new computerized shading. The technology ranges from a Wright brother's-like flying machine to motorcycles that talk to guns and fully plated armored warriors that when compared to Kino would scare a normal person s***less.
Sound:
The music scores bring with it the hard fact that this anime could be real. When the atmosphere is depressing the music multiplies its effect on you. But I love how the English voice cast pulled of the character's own personality in their voices. Granted Kino is rarely giving any emotion in her voice, but to have her voice actress be able to keep the emotionless voice going with out it becoming a monotone drone makes it quite the achievement.
Character:
There are only two main characters, and no reoccurring characters, in the anime. This is because the anime goes through maybe the first 2 or 3 volumes, so any reoccurring characters would not seem to be reoccurring. But the main characters have very distinct and opposite personalities. Kino is a realist, she sees things for how they are. She makes now real wise cracks. She does interact with the other as friends would, though. Then there is Hermes, her motorrad or talking motorcycle. He makes wise cracks about stuff that she does and seems pessimistic at times. He constantly goes on about how she doesn't take very good care of him. But anyone can see he finds Kino to be his one and only friend.
Enjoyment:
Just the fact that this anime will make you stop to think about how our world is and how people in the real world would react to different situations, not giving the "and they all lived happily ever after" ending when you think you will see it. It gives you a reality check and makes you realize that Love Hina, or Gurren Lagann are just fantasies that would probably be dreams not realities.
Overall:
It's the Brothers Grimm of anime. It is a bunch of situations in anime that instead of going right, they go wrong and show you the consequences. Again i would like to stat that any one reading this review should go see this anime. This is usually my death threat sentence but the realism is if you don't want to watch this anime, don't. The only one your hurting is yourself for not wanting to face reality.

Before I talk about this I must point out I, personally, am a hardcore fan of the great Gundams of the 80's and 90's. These had the best story telling, along with characters and mecha that showed that you didn't need all the huge explosions just for a grand stand to be epic. Also for the record I have a burning hatred for this particular series and this may contain spoilers that I can't review this without saying so please bear with me.
Story:
If you have watched Gundam SEED you should already know the back story for this, seeing as it's a direct sequel to Gundam
...
SEED. and at the beginning it actually is watchable. The main character at first looks to be the old anti-hero of Gundam SEED, Athrun Zala, But he then is proven to be there for nostalgia's sake making way for the new guy piloting the new Gundam, Shinn Asuka. Now this shows great story and me and all the people I watch this with agree that this is the high point of the series. But the story comes crashing down when all of a sudden Shinn loses his spot light to, as my friends refer to him, "Jesus" Yamato, or Kira "McBeamSpam." Yes the hero of Gudam SEED, halfway through the anime mind you, shoves the main character out of his role and stands there looking like he was just. ARGH!!! This is why Zeta and ZZ are the best sequels ever, because they switch the main character from the previous series for a new person, who in all rights is his own form of epicness. So yeah, back to the story, it's a complete train wreck after meeting back up with Kira with a stupid ending. I seriously had to finish the series on a dare and i ended up beating my head against a wall.
Art:
All things aside the designs are great. The Gundams themselves are nice to look at and fight the way they do in SEED. The characters have the Infinite Ryvius/S-cry-ed look which they were doing at the time. I personally think this style works for some animes but ruins it for others. It work for this one I guess seeing as all the bad parts of the anime are in the story an no character development.
Sound:
I can't remember the sound that well but it couldn't have been that bad. That is literally all i can think to put hear.
Character:
We finally hit this point. My biggest rant in this whole review next to the story or the enjoyment (probably). For all it's faults I have only one character I like, Shinn. He was a great character. He was the closest character in this to not being an Infinite Ryvius clone. He wasn't looking for the approval of anyone. He broke orders and had no tie-downs like parents or family. The only people close to him are either mecha pilots, or the crew of the battleship. Then we go to Kira, Mr. Needs-All-The-Spotlight-Of-Everything-He's-In. I've hated him with a passion. He tries to use the Amuro Ray reason for fighting like protecting his friends. His only real difference from Amuro is that he has a girlfriend in the end, also that he never dies. Also, Newtypes are better than Coordinator. Coordinators are basically Cyber Newtypes but are treated as Newtypes. That is my last line because if i go on anymore this will go into a rant about 00 season 2 and I said this would be one on SEED Destiny.
Enjoyment:
Watch this anime through once. Then see if you'll enjoy it. Most people who enjoy this anime have never seen the original Gundams and have nothing to compare this to. Most, if not all, who hate this anime have seen at least all the 80's Gundams and know that this was a mediocre work at best trying to be a Gundam. This brought with it no new sayings or feelings beside rage and this sucks to the hardcore Gundam fans.
Overall:
I hat this anime, but it is something you have to decide. P.S. don't spam me with s**** about how this was a great anime. I own a Katana and know how to use it. Trust me I can lose my patience with people very quickly.

Gurren Lagann Is a must watch anime for anyone who wants to see why anime is so greatly revered. Now I must suggest, and I will say this at the end of the review, that you go watch this anime. Now then on to the review.
Story:
Now I will not even tell you a synopsis of the basic storyline for this anime because it would sound to uninteresting. The anime itself is set into three parts that dissuade any synopsis I can give. The first part is the introduction to all the main characters it lets you get a feel for their characters with many good
...
fights and lines from one specific character. Now I just realized that I forgot to mention that this is a mecha anime. But its a mecha made by Gainax so it isn't your usual mecha story but an alteration of the generic real robo story. I had to explain that because the second part is where it starts to actually resemble a mecha in story to me. It is where the main crew of characters figure out who their antagonist is and go to defeat him. It shows the main character go through changes in his character that no one saw happening as fast as it did. the last third is the wrap-up/epilogue of the story explaining what happened a few years later. This is where some of the most epic scenes and lines emerge. I personally watch the last three episodes at least once a month and still it is as epic as the last time i saw it.
Art:
I'm a fan of Gainax's and some of their over the top character designs and mecha designs. This was also my first Gainax anime so after watching Gundam the Gunmen look so off but they grow on you. If you want to know this anime's spokeswoman go google Gurren Lagann and go to images. Don't worry I'll wait. Yeah she gets lots of fanshots, if you know what I mean. Now that has got any guy ready to watch this anime. If your a girl and want to know what this anime has for you. Uh, um, well I guess the guys are mostly never wearing any shirts, I don't know what it is your looking for. I've had like four girls watch this anime and not a single one got it. So, yeah this is mainly made for the men.
Sound:
Oh man, after my fifth time watching this I went and downloaded the OST. It has some of the best songs ever like Viral's Theme, or their main fighting theme. It has the only rap that I will stomach and has the best metal in anime. The sound effects make it sound like a Gainax anime whit mecha's tearing each other apart and all the random explosions going off in rapid succession.
Character:
The characters of this anime are mostly in one of two categories. One their meant to be serious at parts and make the hair on your neck stand on end. Their the ones that get all the best lines and make the cool speeches. The others are part of the comedy reliefs. Now almost every character is part of this, including the ones in the first category. But they had to make it humorous. Without characters, like the gay mechanic, the story would have resembled Neon Genesis, and that is something that we didn't need.
Enjoyment:
This is a riot of an anime. You'll watch it, wait a week, then watch it again and still find the jokes funny and the speeches epic. If you know anything about scientific terms you'll laugh at all the random mish-mashing of the laws of physics in the third act.
Overall:
Watch it. NOW!!! If you read this review and didn't watch it I will know. I will then come down to your house with my box set. Strap you down to the most uncomfortable chair I own and have you watch all 27 episodes. Hope you enjoyed my first review.
