Denji is 16 year old boy who’s in severe debt, he’s invited into a group responsible for hunting and killing devils right after he kills a shit-ton of zombies, as a devil-human hybrid himself he’s not respected by many people there.
Denji’s only real goal in the story is to feel some tits and he’ll “hook up” with any girl as long as they’ll help him achieve this goal, pulling the plot away from action scenes and instead using the already short amount of run time to show sensual scenes containing Denji.

know things don’t need to be happening in every episode, but 3 episodes in a row being filler isn’t very exciting, especially after watching the characters do literally nothing but be trapped for the last 2 episodes when it could’ve been used towards plot development, or even to make us connect with the characters more.
They introduce the plotline of the Gun Devil, an incredibly powerful Devil who Denji is tasked with killing, they need to harvest pieces of him to track him compass-style, which is a pretty interesting concept as whatever devil swallows these pieces of the Gun Devil get buffed, which makes obtaining the pieces difficult. After fighting the first devil you’d assume the plot would continue with them fighting these insanely buffed creatures, but instead they focus the plot on the slightest ounce of romance the show has, completely dropping the action plot and not really doing anything with it until they get jumped by Katana Man and are forced to train, the show ends with the fight against Katana Man and a cliffhanger that they’re finally able to track the Bullet Devil.
The show is still worth the watch despite all this, it’s not uncommon for anime like Chainsaw Man to have unnecessarily long side plots before returning to the main plot, nor is it uncommon for shounen to have sensual scenes, it definitely doesn’t live up to the hype storywise, but that doesn’t mean it fails at entertaining, it’s still a pretty enjoyable story.

I'm not entirely sure what was going on half the time, the plot is a bit unique for an idol anime, while also completely failing at whatever it was trying to do, a group of 8 girls have been sent a letter to audition for an idol group, and the show is their story of how they got popular, pretty normal idol anime plot until you realize the backstories for the characters take up a great margin of the show which really wouldn't be an issue if the events that take place within those backstories weren't so predictable, they all felt kind of half-assed and
...
like an excuse to make us connect with the cast (and therefore the real life idol group) more, I've honestly connected more to characters I know little to nothing about than most of the idols in this show. All of the girls backstories follow a similar plotline of "two or more people existing, existence is abruptly halted for one of them, be sad" or "two or more people existing, family crisis, be sad." Yes, all the scenes in question are extremely human and personify the cast, but it doesn't really feel deserved when I'm watching an episode and it goes from 22/7 is about to preform on-stage, to watching how terrible their lives used to be, it just feels like I breached their privacy, I did not earn this, there's no warning or anything, the only character who's backstory I felt I actually deserved was Jun's, solely because the episode was based around her ALONE and it fit the plot decently well. The flashbacks have caught me off-guard on multiples occasions because they were so random, although rarely it will actually fit the story and bring some meaning to the group, but more often than not it's just trying to make me feel for the characters.
Moving on, lets talk about the "Conflict" of the anime, there's little to none, the first episode introduces "The Wall", a being that gives orders that the girls have to follow because "The Walls orders are absolute", literally no further explanation ..okay, these orders always end up working out, no matter what happens. "The Wall" poisons all the girls in one episode, but one of them coincidentally didn't like the texture of the food and didn't eat it, so she's fine and has to continue all the tasks the entire group was supposed to do, which would've made for good conflict, but I knew that she wasn't going to fail because "The Wall" is never wrong, you can predict the next 2 episodes just by one scene where "The Wall" is giving orders, that's why when the girls were told to disband, I didn't even care anymore, the show was going to end with them somehow not disbanding and it being all "woo, we defied the wall, the wall meant nothing after all and we did it all on our own!" junk. The show is sorta good at being an angst show, but not a great idol show to promote a girl group, or a good show in general really, when I watch multiple episodes in a row and the only conflict within those episodes are things that happened in the past, things that do not matter, and things that are completely unrelated to the "story", it just makes watching it feel more or less like a drag, a lot of times the present conflict was easily resolved for the cast by just saying "oh well 'the wall' said it would happen, so it'll happen" which completely just ruins all tension.
TL;DR: anime is purposefully angsty to promote idol group, all conflict can be summed up by saying "the wall is always right"

It's not necessarily a bad show, but when the plot wasn't about the platonic relationship between a mermaid and a human and instead about the relationships between a bunch of mermaids, I really didn't enjoy the show. Yes, the whole point is "holy moly! mermaids are real!" but none of the mermaids are really that interesting, nor do they add anything to the (non-existent) plot of the show. The mermaids don't contrast each other well, even if acting slightly different they all share INCREDIBLY similar personalities, making a great majority of the main characters pointless other than having the watcher experience some ounce of shock

value and to add useless filler in an attempt to grow a connection. Not having very many tropes or "dere" present is usually fine, but it's honestly something this anime needed to excel the plot. Watching the mermaids interact with each other is how I imagine it would feel to watch a conversation between a boulder and a rock, they're practically the same character with slightly different traits.
The sexualization and innuendos crammed into the second-to-last episode really is what ruined the show for me. The "cucumber joke", would've been a kind of (not really) funny one-off joke, but instead it persisted for multiple episodes, the same type of ordeal happens with Fuji, one of the shows main characters, her whole shtick is that she's in one-sided love with Muromi, which could've made for some interesting scenes, or even some type of storyline if her character actually did anything other than have gravity defying spheroids that move with more velocity than the ball during an intense game of Soccer. At first I thought the velocity of Fuji's breasts was a bit hysteric and assumed that it was meant to be a quick gag, just a brief "haha look, she has big boobs" then the story would continue but the already miniscule amount of comedy faded as I realized the breasts were animated like this in every single scene that has her, the small amount of comedic value that scene had given me instantly turned into what can only be described as tasting used deodorant and feeling a hair, an incredibly disgusting and uncomfortable experience, every time it happened I wanted it to be over as soon as possible. A grand majority of the points I brought up aren't in episodes 1-8 however, so if you're just looking for a show about mermaid girls, I highly recommend 2/3rds of this show.
TL;DR: watch episodes 1-8 then either drop the show or brace yourself

There is a SHIT TON of unnecessary sexualization of the main characters (as well as one-off characters) in this anime that does not appear in the manga, kept seeing comments saying the manga was 10x better, and I'm gonna have to agree, there is not an ounce of sexualization from what I've seen, an example is a scene in the latest episode (Ep 7), where the teacher has MASSIVE breasts for no apparent reason (which wouldn't be an issue, if not for the fact the show has already terrible rep. at this point in the show) while still she appears to look like a child,

despite being a teacher? After a brief flip through the manga, SHE DOES NOT EXIST, they made her solely to go "boing boing" in one of the transition scenes.
One of the main characters, (Kaede I think her name is) has breast twice the size as they appear in the manga, the producers had a scene (that took up maybe half a chapter of the manga), take around 6 minutes of an episode, wanna know which scene that is: The swimsuit scene! Where they proceed by sexualizing Mahiro (who appears to be in middle school) for a quarter of the scene, while the other quarters of the scene focus on pointing out how large Kaede's breasts are, in comparison to his own sisters? The fuck?
In short, go read the manga, it has literally the exact same content, if not a few extra bits the anime did not include, while also not sacrificing the humor for "haha big boobie, me monkey brain go oo oo aa aa."
Better yet, go watch Azumanga Daioh, some peak comedy slice of life anime right there.

Highly recommended even for those of you who don't watch much anime.
This anime was the base grounds for every single trope and seeing them not blown extraordinarily out of proportion was honestly beautiful.
Jokes and characters are well written and it's hard to choose a favorite.
The animation can be and is re-used at multiple points at times, but it only adds to the comedy, some jokes would not have landed so well in a higher framerate or aspect ratio.
All the characters personalities exaggerated to a likeable amount, nobody is too loud, too rude, or too bratty.
Probably one of the most unique anime I've watched by far

as it was taken from a 4-Koma and turned into a coherent story.
