Scrapped Princess and Solty Rei aren't exactly the greatest of all time, but definitely some of the best from last decade. I like how Scrapped Princess has a mixed sci-fi and fantasy theme and the characters are bearable and not obnoxious or really annoying.
I consider Solty Rei great drama and it's true that some characters do die in this series. It also had a great ending to the story. The setting is like a mix between modern and futuristic. I guess you can call it semi-futuristic, because there are no androids (which the main character is but more highly advanced than the android from the Metropolis movie) in an alternative 2000-2015. Speaking of androids, I doubt there will ever be one very human-like, such as Solty, in the next 6 years.
