Higurashi does actually change into a more "non episodic" type plot as you get further on especially season 2, what you see basically has reasoning behind why its episodic believe or not, its not intended to be separate story arcs like gintama persay even though its protrayed in that fashion on the 1st season but let me tell you this. It has one of the best WTF cliff hanger moments ive ever seen in an anime series and it will literally take you by surprise.
