If I had a dollar for every time I was told to watch the Evangelion series, I would have enough money to buy the entire series of Madoka Magica on Blu-Ray. But unlike Madoka, we don’t always get our wishes granted and are instead consumed by two completely opposing opinions about the anime Evangelion. Oyasumi Punpun is about a normal kid named Punpun growing up in Japan and how he slowly turns into an adult facing the challenges in life. Now if this doesn’t sound like the most high-end-action-packed-most-thrilling plot, then let me just throw this trick shot into the mix… there’s a girl! Oh yes, my dear readers! I can feel the sexual tension from here! Will they cross over to holding hands? Will there be a love triangle?! This manga is going to be a shining example of the slice of life/romance genre. You see and read all stories about how hard it is to get a manga published and then this crap ends up on your “plan to read” list so you spend 11 chapters realizing why you’ve never heard of it. Most manga’s tend to follow a pattern of character introduction > problems > goal in mind > working towards goal > resolution.
