Sakura no Ondo is by ufotable? where did you find out about the show?
Kerosknight May 12, 2014 12:46 AM
I see your point. That's something that always seemed to make the show a lot more awkward than it needed to be. I will say, however, that whatever sort of pandering/fan service the show does bring is completely different than anything I've seen before. It's unique (i.e. toothbrush scene in Nisemonogatari) and I think a lot of the attention the show gets is from that. Which is wrong but if I chose to focus solely on that aspect, I would never be able to see the brilliance of the show.
Basically, if you can get through the fan service fest of the later episodes, there is a very intricate and clever story in the 2nd Series. If not, I would try out Katanagatari in its stead. It's by the same author but with less dubcon as you say. Yet it retains the same witty banter and unique storytelling. And then go back to Monogatari if you like it.
As for MCA, I really like the songs. Jin handles them well and my favorite is Outer Science. Unfortunately, his tuning for IA is really mediocre which forces me to listen to utaite instead. In terms of the show, I think a different team should have been picked for it. Shaft is good for a certain type of storytelling and MCA is not it. It needs to be heartfelt and serious and not head-tilty. It's basically what I would expect from an anime adaptation of a video game. As a fan, it's awesome that it's happening but I would not expect a masterpiece from it. It's storytelling comes from its music and that's where it remains its best.
What is SxS?
Ping Pong, Mushishi, Kawaisou, Jojo, and NGNL are really the only ones I think are good. Going to check out Knights of Sidonia, not expecting too much. Yeah, despite being Spring, there's not much worth talking about. Also, I've seen every review by Demolition D after you showed me the Super Serious Winter Anime Impressions. Just love how he reviews stuff.

I like the unique storytelling. Nisio Isin is somehow able to make the most mundane conversations witty and entertaining. There are parts that I blatantly do not like but they are not enough to sully my own thoughts on the show. I don't think it's trashy at all, which is why I am very confused at your disgust. What makes it trashy? I'd very much like to know.

Well, Bakemonogatari is generally really good! I tend to enjoy things about like mythological creatures and things with a psychological or metaphorical feel and I get that in Bakemonogatari. It's on hold for me because I don't enjoy the characters as much as I like to enjoy characters, but I still want to complete the series at some point. But really if you want to drop it, just go ahead. You shouldn't force youself to watch anything.

And I love GnB and WIXOSS so far. GnB is pretty horrific just warning you, theres been a good amount of blood so far. I typically don't go for the whole 'protag boy is super special and somehow connected to a mysterious love intrest.' thing but it's proving ok for me.
I'm truthfully in love with WIXOSS so much. It's mahou shoujo madoka magica-esque as it has a seemingly innocent theme and then it's rated R but so far only just dark tones. Also protag is innocent and plays the card game for others, like madoka just watching the other magical girls. I love the characters though, they all have that likeability to them in a different way. Also the art style is great too, also similar to madoka in colors fitting tones in the scene overall.

Yeah, I don't think I'm continuing with Chaika, I may try another episode or two later on, but that's probably going to be it.
I have started Nanana and I actually like it. I've only watched one episode so far, but I know there's a lot more characters that are going to be introduced.
As far as Black Bullet goes, I don't care if it's 12 episodes or 26+. I hate long series, but it's a little bit different whenever you're watching it as episodes come out. It doesn't make it feel like it's a long ass anime.

Well, so far I've only watched one episode of WIXOSS and Chaika. WIXOSS looks like it's going to be fun, so I want to try and keep up with it as much as possible. Chaika doesn't really seem to be up my alley. The first episode felt more like an episode 2 or 3. It feels like they just toss you into the middle of an already developed plot with minimal explanation.
I've only watched two episodes of Gokukoku no Brynhildr so far, but it seems like it's going to be good. As far as I've watched it isn't full of fan service and there is no robots/mecha. I dislike mecha as well, I can't stand it. I find it makes an anime really cheesy. However, I don't mind fan service as long as the entire anime isn't based around it.
A lot of this season seems like it's going to be 3-ep-tests for me too. Some of them see really iffy, where as others I'm already hooked on like Akuma no Riddle and Black Bullet.
I absolutely loved Nagi no Asukara. I'm hoping for a second season because to me the ending did feel a little bit like it was missing something. They could easily create a second season and give closure to some things that were left unanswered.

ain't I think i will look for shoujo ai then. wjat does the ai even stand for tho?
dastrider Apr 11, 2014 4:38 PM
Okie dokie. I think I may check out some of those. I didn't mean to sound angry when telliing you about Strawberry Panic I was just eh with it. I don't think I actually even FINISHED the ep bc i just didn't like it that much. I am just trying to find cute yuris like how Sakura Trick was to watch with my friend this weekend bc her and i like yuris but not sexual themes.

because it just was like, this girl transfer to this new school and is all like omg, wow so cool. then she falls down this hill and sees this omg white haired chick and not many words are spoken before the white hair girl freaking kisses her and then the the main girl faints. she wakes up and missed all her classes, and her roommate was watching her sleep and was like wow such beauty and stuff. Then she measured her and stuff saying it was for her uniform and then later the main girl went to go and tell them her size and her roommate was just like oh, yeah she's a 7 and the main girl was confused why she was measured all over and the other girl was like oh it bc its my treasure and your pretty and stuff. idk, it just came off as very creepy because she just met these people and they're all freaking out and i fear at that rate she'll be raped but it won't be rape because it's PG and so yeah. plus the animation didn't really hook me either. shrugs

dude no worries about asking!! I was actually curious as to why you and Hannah had given it such low ratings, but gave Kuragehime a higher eating instead, so I'm relieved to find out why that was! Huorou Musuko is actually about trans kids, yes! It's presented wonderfully, but it can be confusing because of the consistent addressing of "cross-dressing" rather than exploring gender identity further. I think this was because they are all very young, and it was only natural for them to have confusion, which makes it great, because you see them learn so much from themselves and each other. There's a lot you have to pay close attention to throughout the series to really understand why it's important, and there is a trans woman in the show, who identifies as such too, and not as a cross-dresser. The timeframe even skips around some. It shows three years in just eleven episodes, so it explored even more than I expected. I hope this answers any of your questions!

You're completely right. It's great though because they're both in Fighting Climax, a new fighting game featuring characters published in Dengeki Bunko. I think Celty is a support while Shizuo is a main fighter? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LEwSSTcuXI

Baccano is extremely good. Just be prepared to have your brain dismantled what with the unique storytelling. I just am too scared to watch it again since I forgot everything. I'll eventually get to it... eventually.
Kerosknight Feb 11, 2014 9:57 AM
Haha Celty is really great. I can't figure out if I like pairing her with Shinra or Shizuo. Yeah, I will definitely watch S2 though I think I should finish Baccano before it.
