What happens when you mix the Japanese history with contemporary music, season it with average characters and sprinkle it with a bland story? Yes, you get Samurai Champloo!
I will not lie. I really expected a lot from this anime and the first episode was everything I could ask for. But then things started moving down hill from there. No, rather it snowballed with every episode and by the time it came to the foot of the hill, it was just another anime......
Since this is mostly going to be a negative review, I'll keep it as short as i possibly can.
Story :
Nothing new. Samurai Champloo
...
has a very plain(read: dull, boring) and predictable story line.
No plot twist (if one can call it so) will surprise you. At no point in the story does anything, and I mean ANYTHING unpredictable happen. Considering this is a Shounen, maybe I should have seen this coming.
Art:
If there is anything positive about Samurai Champloo it is the art and in particular, the animation. Most of the fights are pretty well animated and the art is nice and clean. I don't really have a lot to complain here, so moving on.
Sound:
Uncertain. Why you ask? Does todays music suit an anime about Samurai, I don't really know.
I didn't loathe it, but neither did I like it. So - uncertain.
Character:
Perhaps this is what let me down the most. You have your stereotypical protagonist Mugen, who is brash, dim witted except when it comes to fights and a loud mouth. You have his "opposite" Jin, a character who is a loner, well mannered and an equal when it comes to fighting strength.
And not to forget the bubbly, comical girl Fuu,who is the glue which holds these two together.
Yes, your everyday Shounen setting. And since Samurai Champloo is only 26 episodes long, neither do the antagonists make any sense nor do they do they have character.
Enjoyment:
Hardly any. Just because the fries look crisp and golden that doesn't make them tasty. Just because an anime has been rated highly that doesn't necessarily make it enjoyable.
Overall:
Samurai Champloo is a potpourri of everything I don't want to seen in an anime. Lousy story, weird music, and detestable characters.
But then again, just because I didn't enjoy Samurai Champloo doesn't mean you won't like it..................

If you plan on watching Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Psychic Detective Yakumo) because it has the word 'Detective' in it, I recommend that you don't. Although the name does spell out Detective, the anime does not really fall under the mystery genre. Same goes if you're an action fan - this contains no fight scenes.
While starting Psychic Detective Yakumo, I didn't really expect a lot out of it and the first couple of episodes did not help the cause.
But gradually, this show did better exponentially. This is a story about Saitou Yakumo - a teenager capable of seeing spirits of the dead with his blood
...
- red left eye, and Ozawa Haruka - a girl who initially approaches Yakumo for help, after the death of her friends under mysterious circumstances.
Story: 8
Although the plot doesn't contain a lot of suspense, it does contain its fair share of surprises. Since every episode contributes to the main story line, there is no one episode that is completely irrelevant. Honestly speaking, the ending was slightly cliché, but not disappointing. As this a no-action type of anime, it was kinda expected.
But in the end, the story is one of the attractions of this anime.
Art: 7
There is nothing about the art that is exceptional and nothing that stands out. It is just your every day anime type of art. (Yakumo closes resembles a mix between Light Yagami from Death Note and Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass).
Sound: 6
As with the art, there is nothing phenomenal about the sound. At times, the sound even feels annoying and misplaced.
Character: 8
Unlike the art and sound, the characters involved were pretty interesting. And what's more interesting is how the characters in the anime develop. The way the protagonist's true personality is revealed is indeed mesmerising. Some characters (supporting ) though, were left unexplained
Enjoyment: 8
Whichever way I look at it, I did find the anime enjoyable. There was seldom a dull moment.
Overall: 8
All in all, I did like Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Psychic Detective Yakumo) and recommend that you give it a shot and see for yourselves.

To start off:
1.) If you've watched Angel Beats (the main story), this is a must watch. It explains most of the unanswered stuff.
2.) If you haven't watched the main story first, you should :)
-----*** MY UNDERSTANDING OF THE PLOT ***------
*************HEAVY SPOILER****************
While watching the last episode of Angel Beats you would have wondered, how Kanade ends up in this world before Otonashi.
Here we find out that time in the real world and time in the after world are not related. So it is possible that someone who died 100 years ago could end up here after a person who died yesterday.
...
This alternate ending (and IMHO should have been the actual one) also answers the question as to who the unknown programmer that created Angel Player and programmed the NPC to turn into shadows actually is.
Wondering who.....? Its Otonashi. In this 2:40 minutes thriller, when the student council president Otonashi leaves the classroom after promising to help a student who realises that there is no point in studying, we hear two girls whispering in the background that he is waiting for someone.
If you remember correctly, (in the main story) the NPC programmed to turn on the shadow patch reveals that the original programmer, was waiting for the one he loved and had turned himself to a NPC.
Or in other words, when everyone disappears, Otonashi decides to stay back and help the newcomers and to wait for his love Kanade. After a while, to preventing himself from turning crazy he turns himself into a NPC ( fully aware that it is possible to turn back into a normal person, as revealed in the main story).
Simply put, this creates a time-loop, where Otonashi is part of the software he himself created.
So this means
1.) Ontonashi is now a NPC.
2.) Otonashi himself was the unknown programmer (reason:time-loop).
3.) Otonashi now waits for Kanade to come back to this world (although the chances are astronomically low)
This is what I understood from this alternating ending :)
And so I give a full 10 on 10.
