This is not a "oh, I liked them both" recommendation. Actually, I dropped both of the series for the same reasons.

Both of them did the same thing (from my point of view):
-deep introspective that makes a supernatural story that is all over the place slow down to a standstill.

I didn't really enjoyed them, but perhaps other people out there are into this kind of stuff.

Both deal with day-to-day situations of a circle of friends. One is 'otaku' club, other is student council.
Atmosphere and comedy is similar in both and they should provide similar levels of enjoyment.

Special persons controlling special humanoid looking devices (i.e Robots ^_^ ) for protecting something important.

Similar plot and atmosphere, altho Fafner has a much darker atmosphere than Candidate for Goddess

Similar background, almost identical in terms of atmosphere and plot. If you liked one you'll most surely like the other.
