[Story]

The story is about a girl getting suck into a music game. I'm kind of over simplifying a bit but honestly it's not that deep or complex of a story-line. While understand the 'whole main character getting suck into a another world' idea isn't that original, there are way to makes it seem unique or interesting. Unfortunately, Show by Rock doesn't really do anything new with the plot. I guess you can say it's bit different since its about music but other than added rockband and idols to the mix the story still comes off quite boring. Girl is shy but talented, girl get ... sucks in to favorite music game, girl joins band and start to gain confidence, girl save world through music.

[Art]

It's okay? I mean nothing about was really worth noting, I did however was kind of interested when the anime switch over to 3d mode. It was a bit cool looking at first but after each ep it gets old and you quickly realize it's probably just the studio trying to find ways to save money.

[Sound]

The music isn't bad persay, but the reason I'm giving it such a low rating because feel a show about music should have at least one really good song in it. All the songs played in this anime sound very generic and unmemorable.

[Character]

The characters are...meh. Cyan is the generic protagonist and she does well...generic protag things (caring for her friends and sometimes rivals, being confused about what's going on around her, doing the big save the world thing at the end of the anime, and etc), Retroree doesn't really have a personality other than being the otaku-like character and having a crush on the protag, Moa was my favorite but I admit that mostly because of her character design nothing about her personality really stood out to me either, ChuChu fills in the generic big sister trope for Cyan. The secondary characters are...well secondary characters.

It's definitely not the worst anime ever but even I've watch mediocre anime that at least had one thing interesting about it.

There are plenty of anime out there about fighting demons, and plenty of anime out there about fighting period but there is just something very unique about the way this show, Yuu Yuu Hakusho combines and present the two genres.

What drew me into Yuu Yuu Hakusho was it's main character. As of today Yusuke is the only shonen protagonist I have ever connected with. I feel like that mainly because he's not your typical shonen MC. Many MC for this genre can easily be put into a category. There usually very optimistic about being the best or doing what right.

But Yusuke doesn't really care ... about being the best spirit detective or being the superman of his world. Yusuke is just a thuggish teen thrown into the world of the paranormal and he acts like a thuggish teen thrown into a world of the paranormal. He's a smart-mouthed, unaware, and wants to be completely unbothered kid. And that's something I could relate as a child and even now as an adult.

I feel like Yusuke personality as well as other characters in this show is what really makes it. Yes, the fight scenes are well animated, with each fight being unique or having a different twist to it from the last. But I personally feel like I wouldn't have cared for these fight scenes if these characters were just your run of the mill shonen characters.

Yoshihiro understands how to make a character more than their trope. Keiko felt like a character who had more going for her than just being the love interest for Yusuke, Kuwabara is way more than just the comedic/goof ball character he appears to be in the beginning, and even the character you see in only a few eps seem to have much more to them then at first glance.

I don't think I can really put into words how fun and exciting it was to watch these 4 main characters and others throughout this show. Each episode both held my interest and kept me entertain and Yu Yu Hakusho is the only shonen anime I could ever say this about.

If you're not into fight anime I understand but if you like good characters then I would suggest you give this a watch regardless.

[Warning somewhat spoilerish]

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water ‘starts off’ as a great anime. The first ep was well-done and serves as a perfect example of how to capture your audience's attention from the very beginning.

We are quickly introduced to the character Jean, who we understand is an upcoming inventor, he then spots Nadia, a mysterious girl who wants to find out where she comes from. Later, on we meet Grandis and her crew, who will quickly become my favorite characters in the series, and see that they are after the ‘blue water’ that is Nadia’s necklace.

So there we go, we have are plot, we ... have are mysterious, what should come next is just a bunch of whacky eps of Nadia and Jean trying to get away from Grandis and her crew.

Well, not exactly.

The plot quickly takes on a interesting turn in later eps when Nadia and the others board a ship called the Nautilus. A story that seemed to be going the way of two kids running away from a trio of goofy adults, quickly turns into a story about war, sacrifice, and what it means to be human.

Sooooo,what do I think of it?

Well, I’m a sucker for steampunk and while not as heavily focus on in the show as compared to something like Steamboy you can definitely see the elements sprinkled throughout the series. I love the characters and especially their designs, Nadia’s being my favorite. And I love the constant question the show asks about sacrificing and how they presented different scenarios on the topic that has the audience challenging their beliefs with each ep.

So, do I think this is a great anime?

Weelll...it could have been

It’s kind of hard for me to talk about why this anime isn’t great because I somewhat disagree with the major reason that a lot of people seem to believe is the shows downfall, and that is eps 23-34 often dubbed as the island and Africa arcs.

It is is between these 11 eps that things get kind of weird mainly for the character’s characterization and mainly for Nadia.

Nadia, for the most part of the series, is a stubborn, bratty, girl who has a hard time trusting people. This makes sense however, as from ep 1 we can tell she had quite a hard life that had made her become that way. However, in these eps she goes from being bratty to a straight up bitch. The girl seems to be constantly angry with Jean even when there is no conceivable reason she should be. There is even a part in one of the eps that she admit she doesn’t know why she gets angry with him so much.

The excuse or reason why these eps are so bad is due to the fact that during this time Anno Hideaki, the original director, handed it over to Shinji Higuchi. There was also the fact that NHK, the channel that was broadcasting it, wanted more eps than they had planned for.

These reason are so highly accepted among fans as reasons why this show is bad that many will tell you just to skip theses arc, but this belief honestly frustrates me.

You see my major problem with this show is the lack of character development with Nadia and her interaction with other characters. I was okay with Nadia being a difficult character to put up with in the beginning because I hoped that eventually she soften up to the others character, maybe even begin understand their opposing viewpoints but this never happens not even with Jean, her love interest.

Also, I would like to take a quick moment to explain how bad Nadia & Jean’s relationship is. It is the second worst anime couple I’ve seen next to Sakura and Sasuke. Nadia and Jean have such strong opposing viewpoints about machines,man, and food that they spend 90% of the show arguing and can’t honestly even say it’s arguing as it just Nadia yelling at Jean Like during the Nautilus eps, crew members constantly go on about how Nadia and Jean like each other but Nadia is so fucking indifferent/angry with him that I don’t understand why they would think this other than the fact that she a girl and he’s a boy? Like I get Nadia is the prototype tsundere to Anno’s Asuka but man does her feelings for Jean seem to come out of left field when we do see it. .

But getting back to my main point, Nadia lack of character development bothers me because what is the point of Nadia’s character if we never see her actually come to care about the people that surround her. Sure at the end of the series she suddenly cares about her ‘friends’ and ‘humanity’ but this just all comes out fake as we never get to see her grow into this line of thinking. Like even as a plot device Nadia seems to have no purpose in the story.

Ignoring the fact that a few filler eps exist isn’t going to fix the fact the Nadia lacks depth. If anything those eps should have been the moments we really saw Nadia characterization develop instead of just exaggerated.

In the end, I don’t think Nadia is a bad show like some may think but just a show that could have been great if it weren’t for it’s huge flaws. While I wouldn’t recommend it to the average anime watcher I do think this would be a much watch for fans of Anno’s work, just because it’s fun to see how some of the stuff in this series can be seen in his later works.

[Story]

The plot is about a young girl who find herself thrown into a card game that involves using female I.As to battle. An interesting ideal that is unfortunately done poorly in this anime.

I'm a big person whose into trading card games. So the plot really interested me, however the anime doesn't seem to really care about the TCG part of show, which is really odd considering that it's a main part of the show.

Let me explain,

When it comes to the competitive battle type animes (pokemon, yugioh,metabots, etc) it important that the anime show/explain in someway how the battle system works. So when battle actually happens ... the viewer can understand what's going on. Fantasista Doll never does this. All of the battles just feature the girl and her opponents throwing out random, nameless card. There doesn't seem to be any real types of rules to the game or explain what certain cards do. Because of this I thought the battle portions of the anime were extremely boring. What's the point of even watching them if I don't even understand what's going on.

As I continued to watch the anime, I got to understand that this was more about the main characters relationship to the I.As rather than towards the TCG aspect of the show.

And if the show was going for that fine, but if that the case what's the point of even putting this lackluster TCG battle aspect into the show in the first place.

The art is okay. It has that cute look to it without going into moe-y territory (which I personally don't like)

[Sound]

Is alright. Nothing really memorable about it.

[Character]

The characters are probably the best part of the show. I say this not implying that I think the characters are all that great, but from the fact that the anime's main goal was to focus on the character's relationship with one another and as such the characters became the most interesting thing out of the whole show. Overall, no one in this show didn't really have a interesting personality or memorable traits that I cared about or could get from another/better anime. I will admit that a lot of them have interesting character designs tho.

[Enjoyment]

While Fantasista Doll definitely isn't the worst anime I ever experience, the absolute disinterest the show seem to have for it own battle system really disappointed me as that what made me interested in it in the first place. Hence, why I gave it such a low score.

If you're looking for a show that involves TCG battles go somewhere else, but if you're looking for 1000+ generic cute girl anime, where here you go.
