Gosick is a strange ''mystery'' series that is based in a series of light novels! It's from studio Bones (that also gave as Fullmetal Alchemist) and it may not be its most ambitious work, but it is definitely its most ''out of the ordinary'', since while is supposed to be a ''mystery'' series, it combines with it elements of romance (mostly about the strange relationship between the two protagonists), alongside with elements of war/politics, as well as ''Pseudo-History'' (that shows what could had happened if the Nazis had ever been involved with the occult - as Bones had first shown in the movie ''Fullmetal Alchemist:
...
The Conqueror of Shamballa'')!
The series has as a common theme mysteries that they look like there is something ''supernatural'' behind them, but the young ''detective'' girl protagonist always proves that there is a logical explanation on everything!
Now, some people are complaining that the male protagonist isn't evolved properly as a character, but that isn't true! Whenever he has to handle a situation alone, he proves that even if he is kind of naive, he is quite skillful!
But the real ''star'' of the series, is the female protagonist, that she is not just a know-it-all ''loli'', but a smart and brave girl, which although she looks cold and distant, she just looking for someone who understands her, and for a chance to break her isolation and to learn about the outside world! The mystery of her origins, as well as the question of what is it that some powerful people want from her, it's the basis of the whole series!
Now, the series on the last episodes goes completely ''out of its way'', when it changes from a ''mystery'' series into a... ''romance adventure'', but in reality it is then that it becomes more interesting... and the ending it's quite touching!
Overall, the series may not been a ''masterpiece'', but it's still great, moving and enjoyable, and it is highly recommended, if you like both mystery and romance/historical adventures, and if you are looking for something more ''unique''!

When Last Exile was first released more than a decade ago, it was an anime ahead of its time and became an istant hit, making a lot of money for the studio Gonzo, while it was also received critical acclaim - especially from the western audience who demanded an anime ''not too violent'', but also ''not too child-friendly''! By today's standards, it looks now somewhat ''dated'' (especially considering that the ''steampunk'' genre isn't for everyone anymore), but it should still be considered ''a modern classic'' for years to come! But, let's see it in detail:
Story:
Taking place in a world where the mankind totally rules the
...
skies, wars fought with airships and messages carried exclusively with planes, the viewers will enjoy an adventure that not even the two protagonists trully expected!
Fans of steampunk, aviation and war stories will have more of a reason to get excited, while fans of Star Wars, Hayao Miyazaki's films, steampunk RPG's and even the Dune novels, will going to see some influence from those too.
Off course, like in every ''original'' anime series, the pacing isn't perfect: Some episodes have more dialogue than it needed, and the story seems slow in the start - since it takes some time for the audience to realise who fights who and for why... But if you have patience, the story will become interesting quite fast.
Now, the biggest criticism that the series received storywise, is that the ending feels ''rushed'', but tell me... What original anime series nowadays doesn't have a ''rushed'' ending? In fact, the ending of Last Exile is much better in comparison with others, and it satisfies the viewers for their patience! You wiil definitely be touched!
Characters:
The ''couple'' of the two protagonists is more than what it seems... Claus, may looks like the typical ''boy protagonist'', but during the course of the series he is proven more mature than he looks, while Lavie, may looks like the typical ''girlfriend to the protagonist'', but she also is more reasonable than she seems (when she is not yelling too loud)!
Alvis, the latest addition to their ''family'' (and the ''key'' character), is more than just the typical ''loli'', since her character alone is ''refreshing'' to the viewer after the series dramatic moments, Alex Row (my favorite character) is certainly the ideal ''sky captain'', Tatiana is more dynamic than just the typical ''tsudere'', the Anatoray characters (Sophia, Vicent) are also likeable and Delphine... she is definitely the perfect female villain: She have the heroes at her mercy, without even the use of physical force, mistreats her brother, enjoying the human suffering, while she rules with iron fist and she also trying to ''temp'' the protagonist! Simple put... She acts villainous, without needed to be ''bitchy'' - as other female villains usually be, and while always beeing calm and with a smile on her face! As of if she truly have ''super-powers'' or not, she will always keep us wondering...
Now, my only complaint is that the character of Dio (the most interesting in my opinion) remains untill the end somewhat underdeveloped - especially in comparison with his friend Lucciola... but that can be forgiven, considering the series run.
Animation:
The animation is magnificent - especially the designs of airships and the aircrafts, the backgrounds are atmospheric, and the air battles are all well-directed! Now, the character designs may not be totally perfect (Gonzo's biggest flaw on the animation part) but it's trully better than in the most of the studio's later shows!
Sound:
In terms of sound, the series had fantastic sound effects, and while the music isn't particularly memorable, the OP/ED songs will stay on your memory quite long.
Overall:
Last Exile is definitely a great anime series that surely deserves a watch - especially from those who are seeking something unique.

The third Madoka movie divided many fans and critics because of its ''weird'' first act and (mostly) because of its notorious ending! There are many who deemed it inferior to the TV series, others who treat it as ''misunderstood'', and also others who call it ''completely unnecessary''!
Well, if you ask what I believe, then I think it's truly a misunderstood anime film, and for a simple reason: Rebellion isn't just equal in quality with the TV series... IS EVEN BETTER! Why? Because it's much more daring!
In the post-Evangelion anime history it's quite rare for anime/manga to be daring without the creators feared that the audience/readers
...
may dislike it... But, Gen Urobuchi takes the series basic premise and goes deeper with it, revealing the one plot twist after another, and leading us to the final twist -
which is off course competely unexpected! Now some of you may hate him for what he gave us in the end, but in my opinion, he deserves to be congratulated by all of us for giving the Madoka franchise not an end, but a completely new beginning!
Now, the film's first act may baffle those that have seen the TV series ending, but if you give it some time, you'll realise what's happening!
The art of the film is marvelous, the music is just great, and as of our beloved characters are all here and well, and we have a great chance to see more of them (especially Mami), or even a different side of them (Homura)! Now, the character of Nagisa may not be popular with the fans (deemed unnecessary), but even she provides her role - and I think she will play a more important role in future sequels!
I enjoyed Rebellion bacause it is to the anime industry, the same that Emerald Twilight is for the comics industry: A controversial storyline that it will leave the fans with conflicting feelings about it and it will make them wanting more of the Madoka franchise! Now, some fans may not like the fact that the story will stay ''incomplete'' until the next Madoka anime project comes - and that's why in terms of enjoyment I give to the film a 9 instead of a 10... But overall, I still give it a 10 because it's still a great anime film, so if you are a true Madoka fan, all you have to do is to just ignore all those silly comments about the ending and give it a watch!
