I am sure 14 years later you already know this, but Gantz is NOT for people who cannot stand gore. This anime does not contain gore in *every* episode, but I will say it is a lot. Do not watch it if you cannot stand themes such as gore, rape, murder (especially needless), immorality, and more. It's incredibly explicit. A true not safe for work anime if there ever was one. I will be going over a number of things in this review. This is just for this season of the anime.
First of all, I enjoyed Gantz. I enjoyed it a lot, actually. So why
...
the 6 on something I enjoyed so much? Well, strap in folks, because there's levels to it. If you're into gore, and only watch gory anime like me, keep this on your plan to watch list. If you're not watching for gore, leave this out of your to watch list. Gore and action wise, Gantz was pretty satisfying.
Character development was relatively shallow and nonexistent.
One of the main things people fail to realize when writing reviews about the characters in this show is a key thing: Trauma makes people freeze. It does not matter how many times someone has gone through a traumatic event, trauma will and can make people freeze. That is a part of being human. The characters of Gantz freeze pretty much half of the episode, or longer. It may be annoying, but it is realistic for a human being to freeze for so long. It is realistic for someone to go through trauma, say things they will do, and then not go through with it. The brain needs time to process events, surprisingly.
One of the characters is solely fan service, up until a certain point. In fact, there's a lot of fan service in this anime. There's plenty of boobs and nudity.
The art was quite fine. The switch between CG and 2D animation does get a little distracting, but only if you have an eye for it. There are many times in the anime where there are still frames, and those still frames look quite botched. Though, keep in mind this is an anime from 2004, after all.
Sound was decent. Nothing special, but it wasn't bad.
Overall, while I personally enjoyed Gantz quite a bit, I don't believe I would recommend it to many people.

Overall, Angel Beats! had a pretty entry level plot. I particularly didn't like it, especially because it felt so bland. It wasn't an awful anime, but it wasn't particularly good either. It was just a little less than mediocre.
The main character, Otonashi, really doesn't have a personality whatsoever. Given, he doesn't have any recollection of his past life. However, he really isn't an interesting character whatsoever. Other characters have far more development than he ever had, and it makes him seem more like a third party in the anime. It made it seem like he was really there to tell the story. Yuri is the
...
main person who really runs the show, but Otonashi is the character who really seals the deal in the end.
The development of Kanade is painfully slow, and her quietness and brutal tendencies don't exactly make her the "mysterious but enticing" character the anime intended her to be. Instead, it makes her more of an unnecessary character who keeps everything to herself for poor reasons.
Characters of the anime were set up in a way that they were to have character development and then disappear. However, the "relationship" a lot of them form in the afterlife is relatively superficial. The disappearance of the character/s creates a clear reaction to others, but it doesn't seem like they really mattered to begin with. All of the characters were disposable, and everyone in the anime seemed to know that. While it is the afterlife, the real relationship that we're supposed to feel sorry for doesn't have enough development. The side plots of the characters was a nice touch though, I will admit. It didn't really have an emotional impact on me, though.
The ending of the anime didn't have an impact whatsoever. There was a "romance" between two characters, and it was hardly ever developed. Especially because one of them hardly ever communicated. They really only had "romantic chemistry" between each other because one of them gave the other the benefit of the doubt. The relationship between the two, in aspects of romance, was poorly executed. The ending is supposed to make the audience feel emotional, but it fell flat because it really didn't matter either way.
I will credit it, it really does have some memorable moments to the audience that were well done.
The art wasn't really bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just mediocre. Just a typical anime art style for the time it came out. Nothing really stood out.
Let me say. I really love the opening for it. The music of Angel Beats! is really nice, and I'll definitely give it credit for that. I even wanted to learn it on the piano myself. The soundtrack of Angel Beats! is definitely really nice, but it inherently should be because of the large theme and topic of music has on the characters. I applaud the musicians.

Let me have a disclaimer here. I have not seen the entire anime, but I've lost my place in the anime and the amount of episodes I have listed on my list is inaccurate. I have definitely watched a decent amount of episodes of this Shugo Chara!
This anime is obviously targeted towards a younger audience, and I was 11 when I first watched this anime. (2010) Even then, I wasn't amused.
In context of the time this anime was created, the art was pretty standard. Nothing that really popped out. I'll admit, some of the character designs are really simple, yet aesthetically nice to look at.
...
However, they are very basic. Ikuto's, specifically, is immensely boring and basic. In Shugo Chara!'s defense, this is after all an anime about high school students, so there can only be so much variation in character design. I will admit that I do like the difference in the school uniform. It's a nice difference compared to other anime with school uniforms.
Amu's initial "personality" is pretty hard to fathom, because all we really know about her is that she's "spicy" and "cool." She's clearly unsatisfied with how she is, but we hardly even know how empty her personality is to begin with. Amu, as a character, is pretty bland.
The heavily implied "romantic" spark with two characters gives me a really uncomfortable vibe, especially considering there is a 4-6 years difference. With one of them being a preteen and the other being in their late teens. The maturity differences is what really creeps me out. (Though you could argue that they're both really immature, but still.)
The romantic "plot" in Shugo Chara! is pretty irrelevant, and I find it to be distracting from the message the anime is trying to convey.
The concept of this anime is truly pure, and I do appreciate the message that it's trying to send out. But it's just too painstakingly drawn out. It bored me far too easily, and I tried really hard to get invested into this anime. I really did.
I suppose a large part of this anime that I didn't like was that it was far too cutesy and cheesy. I definitely give credit to this anime in a lot of aspects, but this just wasn't for me. I can see it being far more appreciated by those who love the genre, as I will admit it is pretty unique for the genre itself. (At least in the presentation of the message, rather than the message itself.)

Okay, let me start this review off by saying, I love horror. I live off of it. I really wanted to like Another. It just seemed like something that I would like, and I liked the doll aspect of it and the female main character’s design. I tried really hard to like this anime, but it just couldn’t happen. No can do, was not possible.
The story is very all over the place, and it never really is fully explained. The male main character’s father is off in a different place, and you hear about it several times, but he’s not visibly emotionally affected by it.
...
His classmates are very mysterious, but not to the point where you’re curious as to what is going on. But rather to the point where it’s just straight up annoying. Why couldn’t they have just told him everything before this disaster happens? Obviously a new student is going to be very curious, so why would you keep this foundational secret from him? (Especially if things knowingly go wrong if it isn’t executed well, the main conflict of the series could have been very easily avoided, if everyone wasn’t a fuckwit and was educated about what was going on.) The pacing is slow, and suddenly you learn a lot of new information at once that’s never repeated again. The dolls that you see so much of in the transitions are practically useless except for the development of one character. They’re not important to the plot and they’re used as a weird scare tactic.
Then suddenly, characters start dying all at once. But for what? Why? Was there a pattern to these deaths? Even so, would I really care? The characters weren’t developed enough for me to care about their deaths. The pacing of these deaths/plots are very oddly placed. First people “slowly” start dying, then the setting changes and everyone is murdering each other? I don’t understand. Then, in the midst of everyone dying, everyone willingly changes the setting? Does no one know how to properly grieve for the death of someone? These characters show emotion in very odd, unrealistic ways. They’re either emotionless or a plethora of emotion, it doesn’t make any sense. The character development is just sloppy.
Personally, I like the art very much, but the “creepiness” is very forced to the point where it looks very obviously overdramatic. To some it might add to the “unsettling” events, but personally it’s just silly on a whole new level. This dramatic aspect becomes very prevalent when you watch it with someone else. As a horror lover, this was a try-hard.
The ending of the anime results in the murder of a character, which was supposed to be “surprising”. And it left the audience not so much in a disturbed or surprised state, but more like, “What the hell is going on?” It was a cheap death of a character. We knew very little about the person and the main characters had a very awkward, almost nonexistent relationship with them. (Then again, the main character doesn’t build up a relationship with really anyone, and if he does, it’s very.. awkward with little communication.)

I don’t even know where to begin to talk about this mess of an anime. Why this is such a popular anime is completely mind boggling to me. Is it because it’s trash? Is it because it’s just so much of a mess, it’s completely confusing everyone?
Essentially, this is a story revolving around a gary stu. The main character is less than mediocre, and as to why an apparently amazing vampire is in love with his ugly perverted, absolutely useless self is absolutely beyond me.
The other main character is of course a mary sue. She is loved by all, immensely powerful, confident, etc. As to
...
why a supposedly “beautiful” and “wonderful” character would somehow hang around some sack of shit that isn’t even supposed to go to that school is bizarre. And this little girl witch is supposed to make him fall in love with her too? (Okay, are we even going to address how that little girl is catering to the literal pedophiles of the audience? She’s supposed to be seen as this innocent little girl that he’s going to love. What the fuck? Get that loli stuff out of my face. Not to mention, they body shame her for having the smallest breasts in the show. WHY ARE YOU SEXUAIZING A LITTLE GIRL?)
Why are people involved with him? He is not even remotely attractive in any way possible. I could see how a vampire would be attracted, as she needs blood. (The way she bites him is very annoying and cutesy, by the way.) Why is he the main character when a toothpick would be more relevant to the plot? Why does this anime exist?
The art is mediocre. It’s your typical anime series type of art, and every once in a while you’ll see the style improve. (Of course, it’s when the mary sue gets all powerful..) Also I would like to understand why on Earth it was necessary to ever add in a panty shot. Did we really need to see this? Is that necessary? Did seeing her “oh so sexy” underwear further the plot? Did it help the audience really understand the struggles these characters go through? Not at all. These are high school girls. They aren’t adults. Save the ecchi for a show with older characters.
The logic in this series is an absolute mess, and it goes against the very (weak) fabric of the meaning of these characters. The main girl character is this amazing and all powerful vampire that can only really be that powerful once in a while? Okay, bye. Where are her REAL weaknesses? I’d love to know, and I’m sure the rest of the audience would like to as well.
Furthermore, a succubus that attacked the gary stu once and then realized she was “in love” and wanted to “manually make him fall in love with her”? What the hell is this? The job of a succubus is to use men for sex, not to be romantically attracted to them. Even her mom points this out and she decides to ignore the obvious.
ALSO the gary stu sometimes looks at other girls, unsurprisingly. And the mary sue gets upset EVEN THOUGH his crush on her is extremely obvious and she isn’t requiting it? There is literally no reason for you to be jealous, you two aren’t dating. There was no communication of this at all.
Every second of this anime made me suffer, every “kyu~” and “mochaaaa!” made my ears bleed. Whoever edited this anime has my respect, I can barely watch this sack of shit once, god forbid several times. Don’t watch this anime, for the love of god. I don’t care if you want to watch it ironically or for a joke. Not even then would this anime be enjoyable. Don’t waste your time. Take up literally almost anything but this trash. Love yourself.
