Shingeki no Kyojin (Anime) add

Recommended

I'd like start by saying that i have not read the manga for this series and i don't plan on doing so since i'd like to experience attack on titan in its best possible form.

Story

This anime has a very interesting story filled with plot twists and cliff hanger endings in each episode that makes you want to continue watching with some scenes having you at the edge of your seat. The only weakness i saw in the story was that the anime did not dwell more into the characters backgrounds like you would see in other anime. They could have done this to extend ... the amount of episodes for the season but i think this might have been done intentionally since we know that most of the characters featured in the series did not come from a bed of rose but instead had very tragic pasts. So i think a decision was made to leave out those parts in order to make the series more pleasant to watch.

Art

When i first saw the trailer for this series, i could not believe the level of detail the artist went through to bring the titans to life and making it comparable to that of high budget movies. The art and animation guys who worked on this seems to know what they were doing by using various techniques such as slow motion, still shots etc to prevent this from going over budget. These techniques were cleverly done to ensure that the visual fidelity was maintained throughout the each episode as well as to create a serious and epic atmosphere for the series.

Sound

The soundtrack is one that many forms of media takes for granted where many would just add one for the sake of having something playing in the background but I am glad the anime team for attack of titan did not take this approach. The soundtrack used in this series was outstanding. Each track was played at the right time time to enhance the atmosphere that was being portrayed on screen. The voice acting was great as many might expect from most anime nowadays with good dialogue to match.

Characters

Each character has a unique personality which sets them apart from each other with some being more likable than others but that's to be expected since there is so much diversity here, you can't be expected to like everybody. I don't want to spoil anything so i won't go any further into what sets each character apart and how they develop throughout the series.

Enjoyment and Conclusion

When all of the above categories comes together, it creates one of the best anime series of all time. This is my personal favorite anime series of the year and it's sad to see that it is now the end of the first season. I just hope the second season is not too far away and it uses the same team the first season did. Overall, This is a must watch for anybody who enjoys watching action anime and also a good recommendation for those who are just starting to watch anime(given that they are at the appropriate age of course)

I always enjoy a good anime that is about otakus and loners but If you were expecting anime like NHK, Jellyfish princess, Boku wa tomodachi or My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU you will be disappointed.

The Bad

Story

The story here is none existent. The anime is episodic like the western cartoons where you can probably start watching at any point without having to worry if you have missed anything.

Character

The main character is a loner who wants to be popular. She does not develop throughout the entire series and stays the same she was in the first episode. That right there is a big red ...

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya (Anime) add

As you might have seen in the summary for this anime is that it is a spin off set in an alternate reality which illya and her parents are a family and Shiro is her cousin who frequently visits to check up on her as well as cook and do some house work. the series also has other characters from the fate series such as Tohsaka Rin and the epic heroes from both fate/stay night and fate/zero.
Now on with the review.

Story

What makes this different from other magical girl series is that there is no mascot animal that goes around and recruits female heroes. ... Instead, the magical wand who has a mind of its own with human personality and everything goes around to find the most suitable candidate to become a magical girl. After the girl is chosen, they are given the task of capturing the seven epic hero class cards that reside throughout the city in a mirror dimension. After capturing these cards the girls will be able to use their power as equips to transform their wand into a weapon similar to weapon the epic hero was carrying. For example if they use the lancer card the wand will turn into a lance and it will have the same abilities that lance has.

After watching a few episodes, one might feel that this is just an attempt to milk the popular fate series for a quick buck but the story does get better and more serious as it goes on and becomes more like the fate series we know and love. It also has some epic battles in there that you might want to see more than once. I can understand if someone only watches a few episodes and drop it then say bad things about it but if you continue to watch, you will be rewarded. After seeing the complete series myself all i can say is that I recommend any fate series fan to watch it and I'm looking forward to season 2. Please bare in mind that this season does not end like fate/zero did with a cliff hanger ending at the first season but instead it ends after they have defeated the last boss.

Sound

The sound was great and I enjoyed the new version of the famous Emiya theme from the fate series. Though I wish i heard it more during the series and at the final battle as well.

Characters

The characters personalities were the same for Tohsaka Rin and Illya's mother in this series but it is different for Illya. The Illya in this series is a very nice little girl like you would normally see in other magical girl anime but the saddist side of her is in their somewhere deep inside. The magical wands especially the one illya uses is very annoying but you will get used to it if you keep on watching.

Enjoyment and conclusion

At first i did not enjoy this series because of the idea that this is just a cash grab and the annoying wand that illya uses but as i continued to watch the series, it began to turn into a typical fate series with epic and serious battles. I really enjoyed this series and I recommend all fate fans to give it a chance because the normal fate series is finished and a spin off is all they can do to keep fate alive.

Dragon Ball Z Movie 14: Kami to Kami (Anime) add

I'll like to start off with a disclaimer for my review since I'm sure some of you will flair up after seeing my overall score. I'm a big fan of the dragon ball series with Z being my most favourite. The version of DBZ i grew up watching was the funimation dub that aired on Toonami which had the soundtrack composed by Bruce Faulconer. I believe that the enjoyment of this movie might be influenced by which version of DBZ you you have seen growing up; whether it was the sub or one of the two different dubs. Now with that out of the way ... I'll start my review and please bare in mind that the types of DBZ movies I am used to watching are the English dub and a few more recent ones in English sub that does not have a dub for it yet.

Story

The story was a very poor one. Even though DBZ isn't necessarily known to have a good story, this movie probably has the weakest story in the entire dragon ball z series. I don't want to spoil anything but their enemy was not the typical bad guy that wants to rule the Universe by destroying those who opposed him. Instead what we have here is a bad guy that is bored of having a long life and just wants to seek out strong warriors to fight and blow up planets for fun. My description of the enemy might sound like an interesting plot but it was poorly executed in this movie. The movie dragged on with fillers in between that made me constantly check the progress of the movie to see how far am i from the climax or what was supposed to be an epic battle in the end. The final battle itself had some things in it that made no sense what so ever similar to when Omega Shenron used minus energy ball on kid goku in GT while he was holding the spirit bomb but didn't even scratch him. That kind of thing really destroys the credibility it had going up to that point. The conclusion was very disappointing and it's the first time a DBZ movie has ended like that but it does give a hint that there may be more movies and adventures ahead.

Art

The art work here was really good. It was similar the opening of Dragon Ball Z kai. My biggest gripe however was the CGI backgound they used during the final battle because it was out of place and very distracting but i don't think many people will find it hard to deal with and some might even welcome this but for me, they should have just stuck to the cartoon backgrounds they normally used in the movie and series.

Sound

As stated before, I am a fan of the English dub dragon ball Z movies and I think the Japanese dub voices were a bad match for the characters and they were very distracting. The sound tracks used for this movie were almost none existent where it is dead silent at time with only the voices in the foreground. One of my favourite parts of the dragon ball z movies were always the epic sound tracks they chose for the movies to keep things exciting and to keep the viewers from getting bored in the slow parts.

Character

The characters are the same as you would expect from the DBZ characters. Trunks was my favourite this time because of how badly he wanted to look superior to Goten. I don't want to spoil this but Goku's newly found philosophy contradicts his fighting style up until this movie where he would mostly rely on fusion or spirit bomb to defeat his enemies.

Enjoyment & conclusion

The enjoyment of this movie is dependent on what version of dragon ball Z series/movies you grew up watching. If you were watching dragon ball z in pure Japanese audio then this movie will be more bearable. This movie distances itself from the usual dragon ball Z formula where this is not a serious movie and is around the same level of the one piece, toriko, dragon ball cross over episode that came out not too long ago which consisted of forced humour and a terrible story. This could be enjoyable or dreadful depending on the individual viewer's values but for me this was the worst animated Dragon Ball Z movie of all time.
