The only thing holding Solo Leveling from perfection is the lack of emotional depth from the series’ supporting characters, who largely function as plot devices for Jin-woo’s journey. Despite constant peril and several gruesome deaths, there’s a dearth of tension due to the audience’s lack of investment in the people around Jin-woo. And since Jin-woo himself is protected by plot armour, viewers almost never have to worry about the danger he puts himself in. Mashle: Shinkakusha Kouho Senbatsu Shiken-hen (Anime) add

Mixed Feelings

The story is very pointedly not over even as this anime adaptation coasts to a pausing point. The Divine Visionary exams haven't even properly wrapped yet, so how Mash finishes that remains to be seen. I already enjoyed Mashle, but this season was such a clear, immediate improvement on the first that I'd gladly take another season to see where else they could go. The fact that there's an obvious arc for a full story with an ending they can (eventually) reach makes an even stronger case to continue it with that objective. Here's hoping that Mashle doesn't spend too much time taking a break ...

Yakusoku no Neverland (Anime) add

Great show really enjoyable especially if you like the high IQ stuff like that from the first half of Death Note this is for you! The ending of the season totally makes it worth watching it's unexpected and surprises you. The music is also great and so is the animation quality my only critique would be Emma, one of the most annoying characters on the planet if not for her naivety all 12 episodes would be much more enjoyable. Still totally recommend this just try to ignore her because this show is really great with some interesting twists and turns.

Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season (Anime) add

This season was full of spectacle but lacking in a lot of the emotional tension and strong character dynamics that made season 1 so enjoyable. In this action focused season we see some fam favorites pushed to their limits and some truly beloved characters die and even a member of the main trio nearly killed for good. But similarly to the junk movie it all felt to fast. All style but lacking substance. I think that long time JJK fans will love this but I think it will definitely need to catch up with the manga to grasp the full weight of the story narratively. ...

Hello World (Anime) add

This ended up being quite the interesting discover after randomly stumbling across it the other day.

"Hello World" is a Sci-Fi movie with a core theme exploring how far one is willing to go for the person they love.

The story will appear to be pretty standard, maybe even a little less than that on a surface level in the first half of the film. At this point, it's just the beginnings of a love story for the main characters, Naomi Katagaki and Ruri Ichigyou with the caveat that there's a "guide" for Naomi Katagaki that comes from someone in the form of himself 10 years in ... the future. In the second half of the film you see a lot more of the Sci-Fi elements come to the forefront of the story. Initially I thought some of the directions the story headed towards would have been to the detriment to the film but by the end I thought everything wrapped up in a satisfying manner and made sense.

I thought that the Art for "Hello World" was great, especially when it came to the background environment but that may have been thanks in part to the film being in 3D/CG. However the 3D then comes to serve as a detriment a little when it came to the Animation as I don't think that aspect of the film was the strongest. In particular, there was scene near the beginning of the film that involved a character's running animation that I thought was horrible. Funnily enough, there's a reason for the 3D/CG that will be made clear as you watch the film where even looking back at that particularly bad running scene I mentioned previously, it made sense and maybe even elevated that scene a little for me.

The OST for "Hello World" was very good. The tracks had more of Romance anime vibe than a Sci-Fi one if I had to make any other comment on it. Also, the few insert songs that the film had were excellent.
The characters may have been the weakest part for the film in my opinion. It's not like they were horrible or anything but I also wasn't able to fully get invested into them. That may be because the movie run time didn't allow for enough exploration of some of the characters that may have been necessary for me to connect with the characters or it just may be the characters weren't super interesting by design in the first place.

In the end I was able to get quite a bit of enjoyment from "Hello World", especially when a came to the "plot twist". By the last third of the film, you would be able to feel that something like that may have been coming, but what happens in the end is all what was needed to elevate the film for me. It was the last piece that was necessary to get the full picture for everything in "Hello World"

If you have an hour and a half to spare, why not give "Hello World" a try?

Shingeki no Kyojin: Chronicle (Anime) add

Mixed Feelings

This season is one of the best seasons of AOT overall. I'm still living off this last episode high, but even so. Each word spoken is used and important. There are no filler episodes, no wasted screen time or useless still frames. Each part from the sound design, to the voice acting and character development. It's all amazing.

Firstly, the story. The anime introduces many concepts and tries to juggle them all at the same time. You have many different factions, ideas, plans, backstabings, idoligies, all clashing at the same time. Each one trying to come on top of the other. And its intresting how they ... all come down to two factions at the end. And that's what so amazing about it. The show doesn't try to mush all these concepts together, but rather tackel them one by one untill only two remain. Two decisions, all because of Eren. Which leads me to characters.

Each character is written so well. They feel almost realistic. In such horrible situations, you get to see the ugly side of these characters. Each person is dynamic, going through changes internally and externaly. That could be Theo strugleing with the fact that his entire view of the world is wrong, or Armin coming to the realization that his life might have been the wrong choice to save back in season 3. And I love that their decisions actually have conquences. That not every plan they come up with works. And don't get me started with their excellent voice acting.

You can really feel the spectrum of emotions that these voices portray. When they cry or outburst in anger, it feels real. As if the VA's are experiencing the situation themselves. But the voices are not the best thing about the sound design. The soundtrack is good even when you're not watching the anime. An insane OP accompanied with an impactful song for each scenario bumps the anime several times. Not to mention the carriages, horses, wind, leaves, echos, distant animals, all of the ambience. Its spot on. The anime is rarely silent, and when it is, the animation backs it up with something incredible.

The animation is as amazing as always. The ODM gear scenes is still fun to watch. There are not a lot of anime that are out this season thats has good animation. AOT is a clear exception, with great fight scenes, lighting and smooth movements. My only gripe is the 3D is not the greatest. Its not horrible, but it does take away sometimes. But not all the time. For example, the final scene of Eren rumbling destroying all those battleships. Its incredible. And the 3D doesn't take away from it at all.

In summary part 2 of season 4 doesn't disappoint in terms of the other season. Its many great qualities outshine my gripes. I found it very enjoyable to watch.

Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen (Anime) add

It's just a 10, honestly. I'm sure I could sit here and find things to critique if I wanted, but does it matter when enjoyment is 10/10? The visuals/fight sequences are incredible in the series, but the movie takes it up a level. It far exceeds anything else we've seen in anime in that regard. This coupled with powerful voice acting and music makes for some truly magnificent scenes. Elsewhere, the protagonists are loveable, villains are menacing and story is compelling (especially if you've watched the anime beforehand so have an understanding of the world, characters and journey they're on).
