For someone who's already played the source material and knows all the story beats, this movie is an absolute joy to watch. Its gorgeous art direction and animation is a breath of fresh air from the animated adaptations of the game's sequels, and it's genuinely fun to watch these PS2-era cutscenes transformed into such beautiful and compelling animated scenes.

I would not recommend the Ensemble Stars anime to anyone who is not already acquainted with the characters.

As with most gacha adaptations, the cast is just too big for a first-time viewer to really get attached to them. I don't know how much draw there is for someone not already invested in the boys: The plotline's Kill-la-Kill-meets-idol-boys shtick is entertaining, to an extent, but it takes itself too seriously to really stand out.
