Let me start off by stating that Hakuouki is one of my favorite animes. Because both the television series and the movie are based off the otome game, there are many similarities between the two, but also many differences. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. The movie can be watched by itself, however, watching the series would help you better understand the characters.

Alright guys and gals this anime is clearly not for children or preteens, however, its not to the tastes of every young adult out there. Most of the negativity is coming from the "mature" content. If you like a little darker anime then this is for you. The art was pleasant, very soft and easy on the eyes. Cute is the really the only way to describe this anime. It dose lack some action, but if you like more drama based anime then you should give this a try. The story line caught my interest because it was a bit different. I give it a 7 because it falls short. It only gives you the idea of romance. The innocence can get a little annoying at times, but over all its fairly enjoyable. The male cast if more interesting then Haruka.

Hakuouki (Anime) add
I happened upon this anime by chance, and it did not disappoint me, even though the female protagonist can be annoying useless and naive. The other characters makeup for it. Plus, add an interesting plot and this makes for a pretty decent anime. It is very much a girl anime in my opinion, even though it does have a few good fight scenes.
