When I started reading this, the first few chapters were a little off-putting because I just couldn't quite get a handle on the author's storytelling style. It felt scattered, disconnected, and it felt like I was flying from one event to the next without really getting to know the characters at all.
But, the author got much better at storytelling by the second volume, and took the time to flesh out events (not confining it to starting and finishing in a single chapter) enough to give the reader an opportunity to get to know the characters. Once past this hurdle, it was actually a very charming
