It's a Shame only 5 anime are allowed to be on one's favorite list, here are some anime worth the watch that "didn't make it" to the list, in no particular order:

1)My all time favorite yet redundant to even put in my top five due to it's sheer perfection and how well know it is- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
2)Baccano! - The beauty
3)Princess Tutu - an odd gem.
4) Devil May Cry - for those of you that love the video game series
5)Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica - another hidden gem
6)Tiger & Bunny- a great show
7)Eyeshield 21 - a little long, I have to admit
8)Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S- just perfect, gotta reconsider why it isn't on my top 5...
9) Cowboy Bebop
10) The beauty know as "Beck"
11)Wolf's Rain
12)Onegai☆Teacher
13)Great Teacher Onizuka
14)Nana- a lovely show
15)Black Lagoon- brutal
16)Kekkaishi- I miss this series so much, almost forgot about it until recently
17) Genshiken series.
18)H2O: Footprints in the Sand
19)Toradora! - a nice romance
20) Higashi no Eden - definitely on my top 10
21) "Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom" and "Canaan" are both refreshingly different and set outside of Japan
22)Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - amazing characters
23) "Gosick" and "Hyouka" do marvelous wonders with their mystery tag
24) "Tasogare Otome x Amnesia" and "Another" and "Sankarea" are great paranormal/supernatural shows
25) "Magic Kaito 1412" and "Noragami" have light heated tones but amazing stories and great characters
26)Welcome to the NHK - is a weird yet wonderful ride.
27) "Chrono Crusade" and "Black Cat" are fantastic shows yet both seem to be missing something.
28)Lastly, "Ergo Proxy" and "Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate" are both great horror/supernatural shows that you are missing out on if you haven't experienced them before.

Oh and even if you hate sports anime "Haikyuu!!" is one that would break that little rule of yours. The characters are so well designed that their interactions is what really drives the show and what the show mainly focuses on.
