Story: This may be something i say alot throughout this review but it is worth saying this has to be one of the biggest suprises i have seen in anime the story as it started out just in episode 1 was something i wasnt really into i didnt think it was going to hold out and i was wrong, watching each characters past and the reasons they couldnt except life and were rebelling against god was heart wrenching at times although i wish they could have done a little more in that area there were a few characters they had left out i was curious ... as to why there were there and im sure fans were a little saddened that they didnt talk about TK more being one of the more interesting side characters, and a tiny issue was the ending although very beautiful in how the last episode played out that ending made me feel wanting more which in this case is a great thing to do 10/10.

Art: Beautfiul there is no words that can describe the artwork here and for it to take place in a school where you have only a small place to work with they pulled it off amazingly well the school felt alive and the small details were all there if you get a chance really take a look at how the school was done espically during the last episode when all the NPC were out of school and showing still shots of the school area were beautiful and jaw dropping kazuki higashiji did a fantastic job of directing the art here from amazing character designs to the wonderfully done backgrounds 10/10.

Sound: The music from the opening my soul, your beat by lia, and the ending brave song bye aoi tada to all the music inbetween fit so perfectly with the atmosphere of the show from the drama and deep moments to the light hearted comedy of it the music never felt out of place one of the few shows that i could watch from the first second to the last without skipping any of the theme songs 10/10.

Character: Even though i felt everything was done perfectly i feel the biggest and brightest spot of this show was the characters from the main characters otonashi and yuri to even small side characters like TK you felt for them wanted to see them survive and watching there past play out and the reasons they felt like there was no god in this world was very tragic, i was surprised at how well they put them together with anime like baccano and durarara out showcasing how you could pull off a great anime and not feel cluttered with having a large cast of characters 10/10.

Enjoyment: This anime was tragic yet funny with some amazing scenes that would make you laugh out loud to scenes that would make you cry and that last episode was hard to watch without one or two tears rolling down the face, it puts your own lives into perpesctive the hardships people go through the things they have to overcome never live with regrets in life alot of great morals here to live by 10/10

Overall: This was a anime read about and never gave much thought to didnt strike me as a anime that could keep me interested but as the last scene ended i can truly say this had to be one of the best anime that has come out in the last few years the mending of humor and drama was perfect to the gorgeous backgrounds this show made you want to stand up and applaude, you felt the passion from the creators and everyone who worked on this show how much time and effort was put into this show everyone deserves credit where credit is due with a show like this, if there is a reason we anime fans enjoy anime so much it is because of shows like this 10/10

Story: I dont know where to begin with this because well there really wasnt much of a story to tell could be do to the fact that this is a 2 part series but mostly because there wasnt a story here, the story is kind of hard to explain there is to much going on for a 12 part season and even when they add the next part im still a little confused as to what is going which of the characters are oni and who isnt, its a story poorly told they needed to stick to one topic and i feel they may have ... done a little better job with what they ended up doing i give the story a 5/10.

Art: To me this was the only strong area of this show but still not great the animation is somewhat typical of studio deen large eyed characters, the background art is really good but not something jaw dropping but its easy on the eyes and when the story is not really worth watching just enjoying the sights is something you can do with this series 7/10.

Sound: Music for Hakuouki is ok the opening theme is pretty catchy if not a typical anime opener and the ending song is a little better but still nothing that would make you rush out and by the soundtrack to, also the in series music is not bad keeping it well within the action on screen to help set up the moods without being to in the way, the voice acting is done well but again nothing that would really make you take notice of who is voice acting who 6/10.

Character: This show is no Baccano, that anime did a great job at giving each character a personality so that if another characther was talking about him/her you knew exactly who they were talking about, but with Hakuouki i really had a hard time really understanding who was who all the characters were generally the same and a few even looked similar which just added to the confusion, they did fill out there anime cliche personalities for a anime set in this time period, I had a big problem with chizuru this anime is i guess about her but she has no presence at all she was just there and the other characters aknowledged her being there at times when needed one of the worst main characters i have seen 5/10.

Enjoyment: Its hard to enjoy this anime that starts with what plot and goes through about 6 more before the show ends its a little overbearing and you just dont feel attacthed to these characters or worry about what might happen to them 3/10.

Overall: This anime is going to have to tie up some loose ends in the next part to really showcase something that could turn out to be a little better but that is a tough mountain to climb after this showing her, to many plots to many characters hurt this anime in alot of ways if they would have spent more time focusing on one plot this anime might have been a little better but they didnt instead tried to force alot of story down our throats and not really concluding any of them after 12 episodes is a hard pill to swallow 4/10

Story: Well this whole show was one cliche after the next and most of it early on from the fillers to the stupid humor done by the president who never took anything seriously made it tough to watch this show early on, the story had some plot twists but they were decent and the last and final twist at the end just made me chuckle and go why did they even have to do that it didnt make a whole lot of sense, the ending though was decent and probably the best part of the story, give it a 6.

Art: My one pet peeve when ... it comes to anime has to be CG and for whatever reason gonzo is pretty well fixed on having it in most of there series and it was plentiful in here considering all the machina were done that way and it grows on you after awhile and you get use to it but in the begining it looked awful trying to do fast paced action with CG just didnt look right, give it a 6.

Sound: Eh average at best the opening theme and ending theme were decent nothing that would make you want to go out and by the soundtrack to the show, the in show music didnt change much using the opening themes beat most of the time, give it a 5.

Character: This was another downfall with the series i never cared to much about the main characters they all played there typical roles that again made it cliche, hayase himself was the biggest problem with this show for being the main character he was pretty boring at the begining i did like him as we went crazy with having power but after he became the cliched hero it went down hill from there, i gave it a 4.

Enjoyment: Out of the 24 episodes i would say there were about 4 or 5 good episodes the other ones were pretty dull, hard to enjoy a show that played off of every other mecha series out there, the ending was the best even though it is kind of predictable i still rather enjoyed it, i gave it a 6.

Overall: This show i thought was always on the edge of being good but it never was able to get over that hump, mainly for cliches horrible humor and characters i didnt really care for it just stays right at the decent level it is something people can get through but i wouldnt suggest it with the other well done mecha series out there i gave it a 6.

Story: Pretty good story from beginning to end it did keep you wanting to watch and see where it goes and when it gets to the climax of the series that is when it really pulls you in, even with all of the action it wasnt a mindless action series that alot of shows pull off this one did have something to think about on, now there are a few flaws though one being the whole opening sequence for about half the show where we see luna and hear casshern growl like a cat in heat which got old very quickly and some of those ... episodes were pretty hit and miss maybe didnt even need to be apart of the show not really moving the story along but overall i give it a 8.

Art: Now im sure alot of people will agree that this was one of the highlights of this show very beautifully done mixing old school character design making it look new and fresh Yoshihiko Umakoshi did a great job also on backgrounds bringing together a great apocoliptic view of this world it had to be a 10.

Sound: Another fine point in this series was sound the opening and ending theme songs were good i felt they did a good job of keeping it with the theme of the series not to up beat but it was pretty catchy and alot of the music in the show was great as well even a song in english which they did play a few times which helped make the scene seem more emotional and made watching the show that much more enjoyable gave it a 9.

Character: All characters were well put together from Casshern all the way down to Ohji every character had there own demons to face even braking or breaking boss 2 fansubs called him by 2 seperate names so i will use both even though he had a small part at the end he to also was a welcome part to this world i gave it a 10.

Enjoyment: To me maybe a 9 was to much for this catagory yes this show is great but there was some pacing issues like i said earlier some of the episodes in the middle of the series were pretty dull didnt have alot to do with the story or even pushing character development i could almost say that this show could have been cut to about a 12 or 13 episode series without alot of what was in the middle but still once you get to the climax of the show it was well worth the wait.

Overall: Yes this show has flaws but then again all shows do but this show does make up for these flaws by still putting together alot of things that makes this show great the story art characters and music were all well done that is pretty easy to overlook the minor flaws that it has i have never seen any other part of the casshern franchise but im sure that this show is a great additon to it i gave it a 9.

This is a outstanding anime one i highly recommend, it has 2 very distinct stories going along with this anime the mystery element of it as well as the shougi game part of it and they combine it so well, each character in this anime is amazing even the smallest characters seem to fit perfectly to the overall story. The story starts of pretty well paced but once it gets to the big shougi tournament that is when it kicks off from the first match to the last it has you thinking all the way plus the twist this anime throws at you is one ... of the best i have seen, if you havent seen this anime yet please do it is well worth it
