I'm not entirely sure why this anime gets such a bad reputation. Everyone I've ever talked to who has seen it says that it is terrible, but I feel like it really wasn't that bad at all.
Okay, so the art design and sound is definitely not up to par with what anime was being broadcast at the time, but it's not the art or sound that makes this suspense anime what it is. Frankly, I found the slow tense pacing of this anime very enjoyable- it's hard to find good horror anime that doesn't immediately throw tricks at you right out of the gate. A

Two fun little ghost stories to watch on a rainy night ....
The first story tells about Masami and the pretty new girl Rima that transfers to her school. After her arrival, Masami has terrible dreams and feelings regarding her... believing Rima to be a vampire.... but what will the video camera reveal? The second story is about two high-school aged friends Miko and Nanako who decide to investigate an old mansion on the edge of town for ghosts .... what will they find? The stories themselves are pretty stereotypical, and honestly, the animation and music are not that great. (The music is 80s synthesizer-tastic) I still found ...

It's great metaphorically speaking, but a lot of viewers will likely find the content of this film very disturbing. There is lots of gore and sexual content. Just warning you ahead of time. I'm not sure if I'm glad I was able to see it (there are scenes that I am just outright abhorred with), but I can't say I've seen much like it and I found the execution of the story and the symbolism of the images selected very effective. It's an artistic / experimental film.
HOWEVER I would not recommend this to a lot of people. Definitely not for the weak of stomach ... |
