STORY:

It's a fairly simple story, but it's done well. The moments when this movie went full-on cartoon were the moments it definitely shined.

ART:

I like the old hand-drawn art, even thought it's pretty rudimentary. It gives it a certain charm, and sometimes makes you wonder 'It's from 1979... How did they do that?'

SOUND:

The English voice actors are alright. The only ones that really stood out were Fujiko and Lupin himself. Some of the other ones sounded kind of like they were bored. Plus, they literally translated his name to 'Wolf', which would be confusing if you didn't know what the name Lupin is ...

Watched the English dub.

STORY:

It's a fairly simple story that takes its time to do what it wants to do, but it makes it fun and enjoyable while doing so.

ART:

Studio Ghibli (once again) puts out some of the most amazing animation in film, truly allowing you to call it art.

I was a bit hesitant to watch this movie after watching the nearly perfect show it was based on, but I shouldn't have worried so much. The writing feels a bit rough around the edges, both story-wise and (most notably in some cases) dialogue-wise, but it's definitely Steins;Gate. It's full of complicated time travel theories (this time, even more so than the anime), heartstring-tugging emotional moments, and Daru's ever-present lewd comments to give it some levity.

From what I hear, it borrows elements of its premise from another film, but I didn't mind (mostly since I haven't seen said film yet). It doesn't quite measure up ...

This is definitely one of those movies where the prospect of seeing another world is a whimsical notion, which means I would have really liked this more as a kid. When I was younger, I would brush off bad storytelling for the sake of spectacle (which is why Star Wars Episode II was my favourite movie for a while). However, my logical, adult brain started picking apart "plot holes" I wouldn't have thought of as a simple-minded child. But if you can move past the little things like that, this is an enjoyable movie.

It would have been a little intense for me as a kid, ...

I didn't know a thing about the story going in, but unfortunately, it didn't quite captivate me the way I thought it would. Maybe it was the excruciatingly slow pacing, or lack of solid plot direction (both of those, however, are not inherently bad things).

That's okay, though. I can still appreciate its very creative story and world, its amazing animation, and its beautiful musical score. I might not watch it again for a long time, but they did a really good job. Or maybe I should give it another go sometime soon; it wouldn't be the first time a rewatch has changed my mind.

Wow! There's so much of a definite story in this 7 minute music video than a lot of full shows and movies I've seen, and it's great! I really wish Studio Ghibli would make a feature-length movie based on this; that would be so interesting to see! It's like Blade Runner meets Cowboy Bebop meets, uh, the girl from Maximum Ride, I guess? But it's really good, so if you can find a way to watch it, you absolutely should!

There's not too much else to say, since this is a review for a seven-minute-long AMV, but the animation is stellar (like every other film made ...

I really don't want to criticize this movie (lest the wrath of the internet come upon me), but I didn't leave this movie feeling satisfied. Sure, most Studio Ghibli films are more slice-of-life pieces, not really full of a plot that goes from point A to point B, however, I really feel like this one needed more than what it was. Maybe if the girls got to play with and go on adventures with the fantastical creatures more, I would be more pleased. Regardless of that, this movie was really nice and had a definite air of childlike curiousity and wonder all throughout. I just ...

Ah, young love. I suppose I'm technically still young enough to experience it, but here I am, writing a review about a movie about young love rather than experiencing it. Yay for me.

This movie is just really nice. It's kind of odd that I can both relate to Shizuku (for being an aspiring writer), and to Seiji (for wondering if he can be good enough to achieve his dream), but whatever. I like both of their characters. The story is simple and doesn't follow a traditional path of storytelling (as expected from a Studio Ghibli film), and it definitely works out in the favour of ...

The spirit world this movie primarily takes place in is SO interesting, so immersive, so fun (scary from the main character's viewpoint, but fun from a moviegoer viewpoint). You feel like this is just one of many, many happenings that this place has seen.

The most interesting part of Spirited Away is that they differentiate our main character, Chihiro, as human by drawing every other humanoid character in a non-Ghibli style. It's a bit off-putting at first, but it's a really cool design choice!

This movie really filled me with wonder. It's hard to review this movie objectively because it's not a typical movie full of things ...

A boy and a girl switch bodies. And that's the start of the most complex love story I've ever watched.

It's so very well written, how there are little hints sprinkled throughout of what's really going on, then BAM! You're hit with the realization, and you wonder where the story will go from there. It's really clever and neat execution, but what's impressive is that this movie does that three times.

According to my friend, it's better upon rewatching (which he did when he showed me), but I still enjoyed it. It's just that it felt too complicated right now, so I think I'll have to watch ...
