I would be deeply annoyed as well. It is a nice gesture and all but being accredited with something you did not truly accomplish is not satisfying. I think very much the same, knowing merely a part of a language means nothing. I believe he told me since he was of 7 years.
I feel the same. I am referencing some of those who call themselves polyglots but can only understand the language and speak it at the most basic level but cannot write or read it and go around boasting about their knowledge. And yes I know him in person.
Receiving a pleasantly surprised look is always a nice feeling. What constitutes a learned language for you? Do you think just being able to read/understand a language (not able to speak) is sufficient, or must you become proficient in all aspects in your opinion? And yes I did happen to know that. As non-culturally diverse as my area is I happen to have a Yemenite acquaintance who enlightens me from time to time.
This is true. I could never even begin trying to fathom a language such as Arabic (any given dialect of it) or any language heavily encapsulated with predominately tonal expressions or non-Latin alphabets unless I was entirely passionate about the language.
Very respectable, you can't go wrong with a dictionary. Such programs are handy but they're just that, handy, not necessarily reliable. And so I commend you for the effort~
That's no surprise really. I only find it useful for one word noun or adjective translations really, it's best to keep it simple with google translate.
Ah I was delving quite deep into my memory to remember what it was but alas it escaped me. Indeed that is eerily similar. Yes yes I understand a saying can lose it's meaning during the transcribing process.
I see.. thinking on it and I've never been graced with the presence of carolers. Dunno if it's just my area or the callousness of the people in it really. Never been gifted anything anime related either, this Christmas just slightly expanded my wardrobe and my wallet~
It was adequate, I was just mildy disappointed in a seasonal sense. It was not a "white Christmas" so to speak. Don't get me wrong it was cold (fluctuating around 30-10 degrees fahrenheit), but only freezing rain followed. Winter is after all my favorite season so to see absolutely no snow around Christmas time is irritating. No matter my petty seasonal squabbles, how was yours?~
*chuckles* forgive me for evoking such thoughts, I knew your response would be most interesting considering the fear and just had to ask. Indeed another one of those times I'm glad I'm not a female.
