When my friend told me to read this manga, I was first like, "Sure, why not". Of course, he didn't tell me what it was about. I then proceeded to look it up, and read the synopsis. I instantly told my friend "I will not read this". He told me to give it a shot, saying that despite its unusual concept, it was actually a very good manga.

Otter 11, based on the manga originally thought up in "Bakuman", is not the best manga out there by any means. In fact, I would not recommend this to anyone at all unless they've already read Bakuman.

The story itself is exactly what you'd expect after reading Bakuman. It is about a half human, half otter living in human society, and the implications of such a place.
The problem is that the story isn't actually that good, nor the art, nor the characters.

Mixed Feelings
Saiyuki is a slow to start series. As I started, I was a little confused as to what the hell was going on, thinking that I'd missed something. Too much was happening with no proper character introductions, and no real story.

The story gets better as you go though. By the start of the second volume, I had regained my ground. I knew who the characters were and what they were doing.
