I wrote this to justify the ratings of certain anime so that if anyone is interested in watching something on my list they can make a more informed decision.
My rating system is based off of my particular amusement from an anime and not an objective review of art style/plot/world/writing/soundtrack/etc. While all of those factors weigh heavily on how much I actually enjoy the show, I will admit that I overrate and underrate certain anime due to genre. For example, a show like Deadman Wonderland has a lot of flaws but its dark undertone appeals to me enough that I gave it an equal score to K-On! which is written exceptionally well although I am not a huge fan of slice of life.
Preferred: Mecha/Futuristic/School/Paranormal/Thriller/Horror/Mystery/Psychological/Bitter to bittersweet endings
Good: Adventure/Action/Shounen/Fantasy/Supernatural/Sport
Outside my wheelhouse: Slice of life/Romance/Comedy/Stand-alone episodes/Overly cheerful
Overrated:
These are anime that I rated higher than I would have if I scored my list objectively due to genre or the time of my life I first viewed them.
Code Geass: Encompasses plenty of my preferred elements so it being my favorite series is no surprise. Code Geass still suffers from having a sizeable cast of characters with almost none of them being memorable or even very likeable. On the art, character designs by Clamp are usually not well-received. Code Geass attempts to merge much of the cool concepts from other anime into one, while becoming overly ambitious and arguably less successful than the originals.
Eureka Seven: Similar to Code Geass, Eureka Seven appeals to my particular interests. The characters, art, and even soundtrack are all fantastic. The only reason I would consider myself as overrating this anime is because it will take some time for it to grow on you, especially if you are not enticed by the really cool mech that is driving the plot.
RahXephon: Another mecha, RahXephon respects the intelligence level (or capacity for attention to details) of its viewers a little too much. You will probably end up lost in the plot unless you have a great memory or are actively taking notes. That being said, RahXephon has a lot to offer for the attentive watcher, even though I am reluctant to recommend this to anyone.
Spirited Away: This may seem odd because most people would agree with Spirited Away being great. I only have this here because I gave it a 10/10. The reason for this is that I rate my favorite series and movie each a 10 to signify that they are my favorites. Since 3rd grade Spirited Away has been not only my favorite animated movie, but my favorite movie in general. Being my first Studio Ghibli movie, Spirited Away has a special and unfair place on my list. If I saw Whisper of the Heart or Nausicaa first than either of those could have taken its place as my top choice.
Underrated:
These are anime that have nothing wrong with them outside of my preferences. If you like the genres they are going for than you can assume they are worth watching.
B Gata H Kei: My go-to romantic comedy. Great rewatchability. Does not follow the cliché romance formula that too many shows adapt.
K-On!: Does what it does perfectly. Each episode manages to carry a great happy vibe and maintain the quality of the show. To me K-On! is like a bag of candy, each piece is about the same and fun to eat but offers little sustenance and can never replace a real meal. If you have a sweet-tooth than look no further.
Golden Boy: Solid comedy. Has hugely hilarious and memorable moments. In the end Golden Boy is just a comedy though; so for me it can only go so far.
Exceptions:
These are anime that seem as if they do not fit my preferences but I still rated very highly. The reason for this is that they appeal to me in ways that their genres usually do not.
Whisper of the Heart: A slice of life/romance with a minor addition of fantasy sprinkled in. As each of the anime on this list are either movies or OVAs they are able to develop a love story without being overbearing. That sort of pacing removes my problem with the overly lighthearted nature of slice of life and romance.
5 Centimeters per Second: Romance and slice of life do not have to be overly sweet. 5 Centimeters per Second shows more complexities with a growing romance and offers a nostalgic feel. Each scene is carefully planned and flawlessly done.
Colorful: A very interesting plot makes Colorful have more of a reason to care about the character’s life. Colorful takes its time for character growth as opposed to the typical one-dimensional characters of slice of life.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: As a sci-fi romance The Girl Who Leapt Through Time offers a nice take on the typical girl likes guy show, sacrificing nothing to have a more compelling plot and great emotional impact.

On another note, D. Gray-Man I forgot almost everything about. I read just about halfway to where the manga is at now. I recall I liked it a lot, and when I saw trailers for the series on other anime I've watched, it looked terribly cheesy; Then again, every english trailer makes everything sound like shit, so I just always watch it subbed. Road is best character fa sho.
I've been playing Starcraft 2 with Logan, PS3 Kid and Tinkle. We hang out occasionally which is cool, but it sucks balls that we never see you. We all still talk on Oovoo nearly every night. I guess we'll have to wait until April then. Not too far down the road.
On another note, I work every day the 15th-17th. I made a new FB account too.
