Grisaia no Kajitsu
add

This is a very specific comparison, but Grisaia no Kajitsu’s protagonist has an origin story that parallels much of what we see in Kiritsugu’s early childhood. Grisaia has a story based more around a scientific world that has many elements and seems often times unfocused, but the attention to character development also is a similarity between these two series.

Both Shuumatsu Nani and Violet Evergarden take place after a major worldwide conflict, featuring a protagonist who was once an infamous combatant become someone who has to adapt to life in a new fantasy world that they once could have never imagined. Shuumatsu is different in that it continues the theme of conflict well after the protagonist's initial war story has ended. Both are a great watch in my opinion with lots of feels.

Both anime have an exposition with a mature boy-meets-girl trope following which the two characters use unorthodox methods to attempt to create a world that one of the characters envisioned. Both anime feature a world at war between two major parties and the political undertones those conflicts have.

It's surprising to see that this comparison hasn't been made already. Both of these two anime present a similar mood, though the similarity in terms of genre and themes only begin to appear after around the 20th episode in Utawarerumono (hope I'm not spoiling too much). Both anime have a strong sense of mystery, and focus indirectly on world building, approaching the plot from a character-development point of view. Both are set in post apocalyptic fantasy worlds, where both worlds don't feel post apocalyptic, and both have plenty of humanoid characters as well.

All I have to say is it's the non sadist, slightly less tsundere version of Zero no Tsukaima. Plot development is comparatively slow and the main character has the same type of a shallow characteristic as Saito, but even less realistic. He's also not a pervert, well, in a sense compared to other anime protagonists xD

No Game No Life
add

Where to begin?... No Game No Life is simply the NEETs version of Dog Days. No Game No Life covers strongly on an alternate world, but instead of a synopsis of "OMG, I GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE," like Dog Days and a few other anime, namely Sword Art Online, it has a more of a Log Horizon or PCACFAW (Problem Children) approach of finding out more of the world. Of course Dog Days's plot does develop in the direction of Cique wanting to learn more of Flonyard. The key similarities between NGNL and Dog Days is probably the excitement and the setting, and both definitely have a nice peaceful (kind of) world you might want to be in.
