I heard the light novels for Grimgar don't have the same pacing issues as the anime, but that's mere conjecture until I've actually got around to reading the source material and watching the show for a bit longer. I don't have a Megumin picture folder; in fact, I don't need one. She's already everywhere I see on reddit. It seems that explosions and "are you stupid" are quite the trend this animu season. Anyway, I feel like I've become a bit drawn away from shows that focus on the story alone, even though good storytelling is always enjoyable nonetheless. Speaking of story, I've also strayed my rating system away from being based off of the generic "story, character, art, sound, etc" categories, and more so towards what I thought of the show in the bigger picture and what it did for me. My ratings feel a lot more "me" now, since I'm one to ramble on about the most trivial details about any given show (which you've probably caught onto by now).

I'm not really familiar with the Gakkou Gurashi manga's structure, nor the fact that it is heavily based on arcs. I want to wait for Yen Press to localize the remaining manga volumes before reading because it's a firm belief of mine to support all of the creators whose content I enjoy, especially when it comes to manga where sales are usually a direct translation into success for the mangakas. On the contrary, I don't really pay much attention to whether or not I'm supporting the creators when I dislike their content, since my intentions are to discourage the industry from creating shit (which of course is subjective). Not many people really agree with my stance on consuming media, I know, but it's just one of the reasons why I almost never read manga. Hmm, well I can't really hand-pick any soundtracks for you to sample, but if you ever get the chance, just listen to the full OST. The "distorted" tracks are done really well.

I love the ED of Erased as well, even though earlier I mentioned that the sound design is pretty lackluster in other departments. Megumin is indeed best girl. I pretty much make it a point to avoid any anime that A-Pictures produces that revolves around NEETs and light novel adaptations, since I find that they have the trend of putting out two shows per season: one that gets a ton of hype (i.e. Erased, Shigatsu, Anohana) and another that they pour their remaining budget into to "just make a show" (i.e. Asterisk). As a consequence, I haven't been following Gate's first season, nor its second season, in addition to Grimgar this season. Jesus, this season, it just dawned me that they're producing three shows subsequently. Just leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. KonoSuba all the way.

When you first recommended me Gakkou Gurashi back during Summer 2015, I just happened to notice that you scored it a 9 after the first 3-4 episodes aired. Or maybe there is this mahou that I'm not obliged to reveal the secret of. I get what you mean when you say they created so much build-up, only to dismiss all of it anti-climatically at the end. It just doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me either. I mean, all of the interactions were realistic enough in terms of the characters' emotional responses, and the seemingly justified "filler episodes", but the only reason why the studio Lerche should have made those fillers was to create contrast between the despair-filled moments and the "moest show of 2015". But they didn't, so... season 2 pls? Nonetheless, I think the graduation was actually a decent way to end the story though, given the time constraints with the manga still on-going and all. It exemplifies metaphorical growth for the characters as they continue to carelessly cast their minds away from the problem at hand, while still leaving the series open to more to come. Not sure if I would have been ready for a character death, given how attached i was to those girls, especially Kurumi and shovel-kun. Megu-nee though... rip. Also. While not as heartwrenchingly profound as Madoka, it sure does beat Higurashi for me in regards to its soundtrack and symbolism in the OP. Now if only Lerche wasn't fucking busy with Monster Musume that season, maybe we could have had a second cour...

I didn't really expect the anime to delve too deep into the Revival ability. I was really interested in it though since I just finished Higurashi (which is centered around alternate timelines and time travel), and found it really unsettling when things didn't get answered. I mean, there's nothing wrong with the current direction of Erased, but it's just not what I was hoping for. If I were to rate the 4 episodes I've seen, I'd give it a high 7/10 to low 8/10, just because it isn't really spectacular in any department other than the story, in my opinion. That's more or less the way it is with me and A-1 Pictures, considering how they're such an inconsistent studio. And until the story unfolds and shows me what it's really about, my current AOTS is KonoSuba, because I really enjoy how the show is going for the whole "worst girl competition" feel. Megumin a best. I'm also not going to be keeping up with Erased anymore, because I'd much rather wait for a better fansub than watch CrunchyRoll/HS's release (so no spoilerino pls senpai).

Damn, after watching episodes 1 and 2 of Gakkou Gurashi, I found the atmosphere really shitty, up until I realized around episode ~3 that there was something wrong about Megu-nee's lack of interaction with the rest of the cast besides Yuki. I realized how Yuki was actually acting as the emotional crutch for the four of them, and it dawned me that in most apocalyptic settings, the emotional insecurities of the characters rarely get fleshed-out. That's what Gakkou Gurashi did better than any show I've ever watched. A lot of people critiqued the show's fillers and lack of tension, but I think that it was an extraordinary job on the director's part to create this feeling of uneasiness that pervaded throughout all of the SoL moments, without taking away from the ongoing plot. Also, holy shit that OST and foreshadowing was masterful. Would have been bumped to a 9/10 for me, had there been a cohesive ending. I'm doubting that there will be a season 2, since the Blu-Ray and DVD sales for Gakkou Gurashi were utter shit. I noticed it went from a 9/10 for you, to a 7/10, why what that? Personally, I think the show only went uphill despite its slow pacing, of course, with the exception of episode 12.

While I do like the motif of a film strip, I'm more so interested in learning about his ability in the aftermath of the current "arc", so we can see the connection between his experiences in re-living his past life, and the way he lives when returns to the future (if the creators choose to go down that route). I think that episode one had a lot going on and was a bit too dramatic for his revival ability to be a mere set-up for the contents of the on-going mystery. His glaring inability to change fate shows that he hasn't learned a thing in life even up until he was 29 years old, and this hints at the fact that his perpetual remorse might be the cause for him being unable to change the past. The past will forever burden his outlook on life as long as he drowns in regret for not saving her. In episode one, he acts completely irrationally upon discovering his mother's death, and his inability to accept fate is yet again shown. He wants to save people, even thinking back to him wanting to prove Yuuki's innocence. It's this suffering against fate that causes him to want to save everyone, and thus, it has become an ideal that he's burdened himself with for his entire life. He's been living by that ideal since he was a child, but the truth is, you can't change history to avoid sacrifices.

So all in all, I think there's a lot to learn from his experience in trying to save Kayo, even if he fails to save Kayo's life, and as such, I'm looking forward to the ending even more. I get the feeling that the anime will end without much attention to what happens after the ongoing mystery though. Feelsbadman

Yeah, I wouldn't knock the show down a peg due to a trivial detail like that, especially since the whole idea of the show is to unravel the mystery behind these characters in greater detail. In fact, I think that the best part of the show is that we are presented with these minute details as we learn more about the setting that completely contrast reality, such that it becomes more important for us to question the overarching idea of "time travel" in this world and why the protagonist was given a chance at redemption in the first place. Is it because of his emotional breakdown in episode one triggering some twist in morality? Something to do with his power in episode one? Is he dreaming? These are pretty shallow guesses, but you get what I'm aiming at. Well actually, perhaps the time reversal might not be happening at all, and I think this might be the case, given the altered aspect ratio in episode two forward. It'd be a huge disappointment though if the story branches of from its current arc early on. Too bad it's only a one cour show.

Don't read any spoilers for Higurashi; the shock factor is insanely valuable for this show. I spoiled myself silly, but the current arc I'm watching still literally made my heart beat during every second of its run time. Oh, and by the way, watch it in the dark... Perhaps if you can catch up to me (episode 13 of S1 as of now), we can discuss the details. It's really difficult to recommend Higurashi without getting the urge to spoil it a whole lot. It's just that good. By far the most enigmatic anime I've ever watched, despite its shitty animation.

I'm still in high school; heh, still a young kouhai. Because of this, I have no idea what the university summer break schedule is around here, but in high school, it's from the beginning of July until the end of August.

Sounds a lot like the ending to Oregairu Zoku. If were lucky, there shall be no Watari-cliffhanger tier trolling this time around. Does anyone else find it weird that this main guy is getting excited at the thought that this 10-year old girl is talking to him? The guy is 29 for crying out loud.
Also, what's up with the main girl analyzing the main guy's psyche and calling him a fake? I have concerns about the idea of going back to your past and reliving the interactions with your 10-year old classmates when two of them act like they're at least 16. But I guess all of this is to express how relieved the MC feels by having this second chance to amend his past failures.

Yeah I agree I felt the same way about HaruChika on episode one. Speaking of how mysteries can be done right or wrong, I'm watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and this thing scares the shit out of me at night. Not because of the gore or loli wars, but rather because of the eerie atmosphere that the drawn-out mystery creates. Pretty good stuff to say the least.

Summer break for 3 months? Where the hell do you live to get these blessings? I've heard that the anime while have the same ending as the manga, which I have some concerns about, since the manga has yet to be concluded. If it does in within the next couple of weeks, it's likely that the show will have trouble pacing itself in accordance. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters in the first episode, but that's all I've seen. In any case, I feel as if P.A works has always been trailing in the footsteps of Kyoani, only to be a less-enticing manufacturer.

I'm doing fine senpai; it's exam week, and I'm stuck in a bottomless whirlpool of procrastination. Mostly playing some video games and finishing shows that have been on my backlog for who knows how long. Boku dake Inai Machi has to be AOTS, unless Haruchika can surprise me. Both A-1 Picture and P.A Works are infamous for their inconsistency in the latter half of more or less every show they produce.

I dropped the yung cafe anime because i stopped being funny to me after around episode 7. Will pick up Kiniro Mosaic soon enough.

It's a shame, really. I'm not even in the mood for the moeblob shows anymore. Maybe I need to check to see if I'm secretly bipolar.

Well actually, it's a funny story. I was home alone one day, and I stumbled upon your recommendation on basil (for Gakkou Gurashi). Now, I had already seen the tags associated with the show, so I knew exactly what to expect (yes I know I've failed to meet your request).

A few minutes into it, and I was actually quite scared, because I love moe girls and all; so I simply couldn't accept the fact that something bad would happen. As a result, I kind of put it on hold until I'm emotionally ready to experience higurashi/madoka 3.0. le sigh. It's not my fault, okay!

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TRULY MOE THAT YOU COULD RECOMMEND?

Senpai, do you have any shows where cute girls do qt 3.14 things? Preferably from this season!

Most of them are OVAs, the rest being seasonal titles that I'm currently up to date with.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel and D-Frag are def ones ill be checking out later.

As for the others, I'm highly doubting that I'll be able to get into them, so that's quite a shame.

As for the 1st op and 2nd Ed, I never really got into them, though I do agree that thy fit the mood of their respective arcs.

P.S on a side note, what shall I watch, have lots of time. No preference on genre, but I do like shows with a creative narrative.
