Gintama is my favorite anime, so I'm a Gintoki stan, but there isn't a character in that show that I didn't come to like. Gintama is an experience to me, not an anime that I'd expect something from on every episode (other than some giggles and happiness). My 2 fav arcs are in Gintama°, but I'm not gonna say what their names are (spoilers). From there on out (~300), Gintama becomes a political thriller along with all of the antics that played out before. Shit gets serious, and it's one of the most epic things I've ever seen.

I'm not going to pretend it is... it isn't (for spoiler reasons), but it only strengthens your bond to the cast, and it's a mandatory part of the Gintama chronology that you can weirdly get by without watching.
