If you love tragedy, then this manga is your way to go; its chalk full of tragedy and tragedy (especially right after you think everything will be alright). If anything, this is a rather stereotypical older shoujo series, there's a happy couple, stuff happens, drama, etc. I would encourage giving the series a go, it was quite a captivating read and although I was slightly disappointed at the ending, it was a decent read.
