When I first watched Black Butler, I was like 10/10 AMAZING OHHHH but then i went back and rewatched some episodes and I was like damn... it's not as good as it seems.
I mean, I loved watching Kuroshitsuji. It is definitely not the worst anime I've seen, (the worst anime I've seen is Diabolik Lovers, BARFS, i refuse to even put that on my list, that's how bad it is), however there are some big flaws that need to be pointed out.
Before I get to that, I'll give you the main idea of the anime.
STORY
Our setting is Victorian Europe.
So there's this kid named Ciel Phantomhive,
...
who's parents die in a fire that took his whole mansion at the age of 10. A demon comes to him, Sebastian, and gives him an offer; Sebastian would help Ciel get his revenge on the many who took part in killing his parents, and when Ciel was completely satisfied with his revenge, Sebastian would eat Ciel's soul. Sebastian would also protect him through thick and thin, and be his loyal Butler. Ciel is engulfed in his hatred for those who killed his precious parents, and his dog. He accepts this offer, and this anime is about Ciel, known as "The Queen's Guard Dog" because of his devotion to her majesty. They solve a lot of mysteries throughout this first season.
BLACK BUTLER PROS:
it's really easy to get attached to Ciel. I've met some that think he's just a brat, but he really does go through character development. Sebastian doesn't; he's a demon. But he does have a personality, and it's easy to see that Sebastian differs from other demons (however only in Kuroshitsuji II, which you can only watch after watching the first season, duh.) It was, at least for me, an enjoyable series. I can see NEW anime fans being obsessed with this, so if you're new to anime, I recommend this series, probably in the top 3 anime i'd tell new people to watch.
To be honest... I can't really think of anything else. The series has good characters, (the only GREAT character, when it comes to development, is Ciel, maybe Elizabeth who you'll find out about when watching.)
English Dub
Really good, I do remember a major problem with it in the first episode, but that's about it. It was just a minor mistake, but in the rest of the series i really enjoyed it.
Japanese w/sub
I watched the series in dub...
BLACK BUTLER CONS
First of all... humor. The humor in this series, in my opinion, wasn't executed well at all. There were barely any serious moments that weren't interrupted by comedy. Don't get me wrong, it's ok to install comedy relief once in a while to make things flow, but dang... almost every damn serious scene is paused abruptly by things that sometimes aren't funny at all. LET SERIOUS MOMENTS BE SERIOUS MOMENTS!
Second... animation. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but it wasn't spectacular either. It was good. I do admire the design for Ciel's character, but that's about it. The rest is just average. I would've enjoyed it much more if it was visually appealing.
I mean... SO MUCH POTENTIAL wasted with this first season. They could have done so much more... more development... better animation... the chance was there. They didn't take it, and what a shame.
Bye :>

Before watching Ouran High-School Host Club, I thought it would just be another lame shojou anime, with unnecessary fanservice, 2-Dimensional characters, and so on. I really was wrong. This is coming from a Death Note, FMA Brotherhood type anime fan. From now on i will refer to the anime as "Ouran"
STORY
Ouran is about a girl who dresses like a boy named Haruhi Fujioka, an honor student, who ends going to Ouran HS, a school for the super rich and beautiful. Being a commoner, this experience is obviously awkward. Looking for a quiet place to study, Haruhi opens the door of an abandoned music room
...
and finds the Host Club, which is pretty much a group of really hot guys at the school with too much time on their hands, entertaining rich girls who also have way too much time on their hands. Anyways, with her encounter came the breaking of something super expensive, she owes 8 millon yen to the host club, and since she doesn't have any money, she is, evenually, forced to become a host herself to pay her debt.
As for the rest of the series, (no spoilers,) there are several mininplots, along with many episodes that show almost all of the important character's backstories. Not just main characterers, but the pasts ofimportant side characters as well. Since almost every single character is rich in this series and most reading this review aren't, I'll say that it was extremely interesting to see the struggles within families of the rich. I have a friend that told me that there's too much comedy, even in serious moments; I'm inclined to dissagree. I'll have to compare this to Black Butler, which had a huge problem when it came to humor. In very serious moments, everything was broken with a joke. Ouran knows hoe to execute himor correctly in dark times, which is an amazing feat you won't see in many anime. Besides, Ouran is a comedy.
Now for the SHOJOU STEREOTYPES...
The boys in the host club are definitely shojou stereotypes, (fanservice, perfect looks, etc.) The way it's presented, however, gives Ouran an advantage. There are several instances where the anime was MAKING FUN OF THE SHOJOU GENRE, which was hilarious. Plus, the fanservice actually CONTRIBUTES TO THE ANIME! A perfect example is the Hitachiin twins, (you'll see what i mean.)
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:
Ouran's greatest asset. In 26 episodes, the writers managed to make the development realistic and influental on the watcher. I actually learned a few lessons with the characters from Ouran. Pretty much all the chatacters developed, with one exception in the Host Club.
There are sooo many other good things about the story and characters, but I'll leave that for you to figure out.
ANIMATION and SOUND
Fitting for the genre of the anime. Cartoony, chibi versions of the characters all the time, and in my opinion, the outside design for the highschool building is really beautiful. There was nothing AMAZINGGG though.
I watched the english dub, which was SPECTACULAR. Nothing less than what I expected from Funimation
Kiss kiss, fall in love!
All in all, OURAN IS AMAZING!

This anime is, truly, a masterpiece in all ways. My favorite anime of all time.
Here is why.
First of all, character development. You can CLEARLY see ALL of the characters, including ALL of the side characters, develop. In the ending of this anime, the fates of almost ALL of the characters, even side characters, are told to you. The anime is complete, in every single way.
Every character has a purpose. There is no dillydallying, no characters put in to just hand Ed and Al a piece of information and then disappear for the rest of the series, gone to who knows where. This happens in
...
most animes, but not here. Every character, even the side characters, and EXTREMELY important. If not in the story, then they find some way to enter the hearts of us, whether through connections with other characters who care about them, or whatever else.
There is a perfect balance of comedy and seriousness, sadness and joy, and all other opposites. Character's background stories are executed perfectly, in the right times in the right moments in the right ways.
In the first, let's say... 10 episodes of the anime, (especially first episode), you may find yourself being a LITTLE bit bored, and like "ughh this is like any other anime" but TRUST ME, right after 10-15 episodes it gets to an awesome thing
bye
