Glad that you're enjoying House of Leaves so far. It's pretty twisted but thoroughly enjoyable, if you can make it through all the psycho. I have read all of Chuck Palahniuk's work including 'Guts', the only thing I have yet to read by him is his novel Snuff but I'm working on correcting that situation. Also, you may want to check out another author called Joe Meno, he writes strange post-modern things that remind me a lot of Chuck P's work. Especially The Boy Detective Fails and Hairstyles of the Damned, his earlier works are good but not quite to the same level.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy and I've sort of been AWOL from my computer, I just now checked my email and saw that I had gotten a couple comments on my profile. For books ... that's sort of tough, especially if you want Japanese stuff because it's rather hard to find them in America, or even with an English translation. Most of Hideyuki Kikuchi's works have been sent over, like the Vampire Hunter D, Meiji Era Dracula, and Wicked City. All of which are cult and horror, so you might want to check those out if you haven't already.

Recently a new publishing company has come out that has been publishing only Japanese works, thusfar they haven't released a whole lot, only about a dozen books, but what they release is quality. They're called Haika Soru and although I haven't read all of what they've released I can point you in the right direction on some, Otsuichi's ZOO is fantastic. Also, if you can manage to get your hands on a copy, Otsuichi's first collection Calling You is amazing. All You Need is KILL and Lord of the Sands of Time are both good if you like sci-fi, and strange sci-fi at that. And of course there's Battle Royale. That about does it for the Japanese cult stuff.

In America be on the lookout for an author called Mark Z. Danielewski, his stuff is mind-blowingly good, if not strange. I would highly recommend reading his masterpiece House of Leaves, if you like that move onto his other books, but that is by far the best. Also Chuck Palahniuk, writer of Fight Club and all his stuff is good, although he is becoming less and less a cult author as the years go by, he keeps gaining popularity. For science fiction, Day of the Triffids (sounds stupid I know) is a must read, there's also Samuel R. Delany's strangely haunting Dhalgren which was recently rereleased and also Philip K. Dick's writings, as well as Robert A. Heinlein's stories Stranger in a Strange Land and Time Enough for Love. Last genre, fantasy, and the nods go to Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series, David Edding's The Belgariad, and finally Carol Berg's masterpiece Song of the Beast. That's what I can think of off the top of my head, if you want just a particular genre, I can get more in depth.

Also, these books may be at a varying difficulty to find. Any bookstore will carry at least two copies of Stranger in a Strange Land but I had to really hunt for Day of the Triffids. So be warned, but most can be picked up off the internet via Amazon or eBay.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
