The art style of anime and western animation is rather different too. I prefer anime cause it has more interesting plots(sometimes) and more mature artistic quality.
All anime are cartoons. But not all cartoons are anime.
Just accept that. It's silly to argue that anime are not cartoons when they really are. You'll confuse less people that way.
